He should play well next year as he'll want to increase his value. things are looking good so far...
Chadders | 5:04 p.m. June 29, 2009
This is not suprising in the least bit. I think we all saw this coming who was going to give him more? No one, plus he likes being here.
This is a no brainer | 5:04 p.m. June 29, 2009
for Korver. It is also a win win for the Jazz as he should play well in a contract year and the Jazz can trade his expiring contract if they need to this season.

Good to have him | 5:05 p.m. June 29, 2009
back. Hopefully the team can gel with another year together (remember Sloan said that alone was "good for another four or five games"), Korver & Boozer can pick up their defensive efforts, and there will be better point-guard back-up; all of which will add up to being what the team needs to finish second to the Lakers instead of way back in the pack.
STEVE-O | 5:17 p.m. June 29, 2009
One down... two to go!
I think Korver will have a great year. His wrist has been repaired and Boozer will be gone so there will be a better distribution of shots!
YAY!!! | 5:17 p.m. June 29, 2009
I'm thrilled and I'm excited to see how much better his shooting is this year now that his wrist is healed!
nice : D, 1 down and only | 5:17 p.m. June 29, 2009
half the roster left to find out about now. unless millsap signs with another team, loozer will be playing elsewhere next yr (yay). memo is 'leaning' toward opting out eh? 'leaning' towards opting out=memo is going nowhere else but staying put with utah jazz. worse case scenario would be jazz lose BOTH loozer and millsap to a higher bidder. if that happens then at least they still have kofous that can take either one of their spots. this loozer & millsap thing is starting to become interesting and intriguing. and to think that everyone bagged on ostertag for all those yrs of inconsistency, at least 'tag' was hardly ever injured and earned his paycheck (both regular season AND the playoffs). loozer only shows up when playoffs come around?! give him a raise then, just with some other team.
anonomous | 5:18 p.m. June 29, 2009
I find it funny how Boozer pounds his chest and says he is a two time olympian. True, but he only played 30 seconds a game, if that, earning that gold. And he wants a raise for sitting on the bench pretending to be hurt?? You and I did that we would be fired in this economy. Poor guy..
YES! | 5:18 p.m. June 29, 2009
Hallelujah! We definately needed him to stay!
St George Jazz Fan | 5:18 p.m. June 29, 2009
This is good news for the Jazz.
reaper_brutus | 5:20 p.m. June 29, 2009
all right korver is back now all we need to do is get rid of AK and everything will be all right, and throw CJ in there to
todd from santa ana | 5:22 p.m. June 29, 2009
We all like Korver. I would rather keep him, jettison Collins, Okur in particular would be first in my pecking order. Figures to be the same Jazz team though so should be a fun, mediocre season just fine to Sloan and the "holics" and greg and kevin..late...
30seconds....GO! | 5:32 p.m. June 29, 2009
I like Korver, but i fear this means Almond is gone. I hate that the jazz pick up a scoring threat like Almond and they don't give him a chance....I just don't get it.

Anyway, as for Korver, I never seen him opting out. He's a good guy and he's making over 5 million a year, I don't see anyone paying him any more.

I see Boozer not opting out, but Okur will...unless the jazz show some good will and offer him a nice contract...he does deserve it. He's one of the best centers in the league.

Boozer will not opt out, he'll play this season and bolt...hopefully the jazz extend his contract and either keep him or trade him for some value...I don't want him to skip out of here for nothing.

I don't think the jazz will make any noise this offseason...but they will recover all of their free-agents.
Jazz Fan - San Diego | 5:40 p.m. June 29, 2009
Korver made the right decision. His foot speed is too slow to make his own shot when closely guarded which also makes it difficult for him to put up much defense against a quick and athletic SG.
Good Call | 5:42 p.m. June 29, 2009
This could be one of the best things to happen this summer. Korver can be a huge threat from long range when his is given enough time. The other side to it is, you know have 2 players in Korver and Harpring with expiring contracts, thats more than 11 mill. That could possibly be trade bait, if they were to get a pretty good 2 guard out of it (who, i have no idea).
Re: Steve-O | 5:57 p.m. June 29, 2009
Boozer has the highest career shooting % on the team....and you want his shots distributed to someone else?????
oh good | 6:01 p.m. June 29, 2009
that korver jersey i bought my wife is good for a little while longer... i guess he could still be traded. I certainly hope not, those jerseys are expensive.
No Steve-O | 6:03 p.m. June 29, 2009
We want him to play defense and to play for what he's worth, not what he thinks he's worth.
Korver should start | 6:13 p.m. June 29, 2009
Now jerry needs to quit being such an idiot and start him over Miles. Sloan is the only coach in the league that would play Miles over Korver.
pastor88 | 6:25 p.m. June 29, 2009
Predictable for Korver. His agent shopped and found no takers for that price, otherwise KK would have opted out.
Boozer will be in same predicament. No NBA team in their right mind is going to give Booz a 12 mil contract, much to most Jazz fans chagrine.
Okur same thing, same bat time, same bat channel.
Disposing of bad players should be first agenda come Wednesday morning.
Get rid of Miles,Harpring,Collins,Knight and Boozer(The Name Fits).
Resign Milsap and Price as well as 2009 draft picks.
Get AK to rework his contract and emd load it.
Go ater Ariza or Odom then look at others.Gordon wont be available.

I think this is good news for the Jazz..Korver is a great shooter, the only problem with him I think is his defense, but if he can score for at least 15 points a game and spread the floor for Millsap and others to do their thing, then it will just be fine..and also Korver is not afraid to shoot, he is a valuable player despite his defense, he definitely can help a team like the Jazz
Thanks Korv er | 6:44 p.m. June 29, 2009
Hooray!!! Korver is staying in Utah! Now I can buy my Jazz tickets and be happy! Enough talk about trading him! We need his shooting ability and the stability he brings to the Jazz! The best news we've had since the season ended! Thanks Korver...
Anonymous | 7:59 p.m. June 29, 2009
Korver is WAY WAY overrated by jazz fans. I'll be glad when he's gone.
Of course | 8:04 p.m. June 29, 2009
Korver is staying...he likes the girls here too much. They love him!
Korver Fan | 8:07 p.m. June 29, 2009
So excited to see Korver decide to stay with the Jazz! Hopefully he will get some starting minutes and the green light to shoot those 3's. We need his offense!

The ladies in Utah are a happy bunch too!
I Have A Question | 8:35 p.m. June 29, 2009
Why is this just a one way street with these players? Why can't the team have an opt-out clause in these contracts? It should go both ways. I'm tired of players HOLDING up teams, owners and fans, lets see some tit for tat in these contracts! Thats only fair.
I have an answer | 8:50 p.m. June 29, 2009
Team options exist - see Morris Almond. Its what the player can bargain for.
Happy Days | 8:52 p.m. June 29, 2009
Oh happy day! Korver is staying in Utah! Great news! Now let's work on extending his contract! He has enormous appeal and sells tickets like crazy! Besides being a great asset to the Jazz his community service is unequaled....well except for Deron Williams!
Go Korver | 9:00 p.m. June 29, 2009
Couldn't be happier. Korver is not only a great shooter he is the poster boy for the NBA. He is the clean cut All American guy that our youth can look up to. He makes the NBA more credible. Korver makes the Jazz fun to watch! Couldn't be more psyched for the new season! Go Korver!
Jazz Insanity | 9:17 p.m. June 29, 2009
If Boozer and Okur now OPT IN (NO RAISES)and if Millsap signs for 7 Mill and a 3rd PG is added for 1 Mill, they are at 80 Mill with a 12 man roster.

That is a very weak play off team for 80 Mill. 8 Mill into the Lux tax with a minimum roster.

This is how much teams paid last year to field contenders.

BOS 80, LAL 78, POR 78, DEN 74, ORL 74, SA 70, HOU 70. CLE was an exception at 93.

This points out how bad the Sloan system is. He demands Vets and the Jazz over pay them and then can't buy the talent they need to contend.

Sloan does not develop young players fast enough to hold down the costs. There are reasons why the Jazz have no rings. It is not the small market excuse.

It is lousy player selection/development and very bad cap management.

It is easy to blame KOC but it is obvious his hands have been tied.

Millsap should have been signed to a longer contract last year when Boozer got hurt. Koufos should have been developed, not sitting.

Change is necessary.

page | 9:20 p.m. June 29, 2009
this is not good news the jazz could of used that money for someone better
Please note that | 9:24 p.m. June 29, 2009
SA, POR and DEN are small market teams. NO is a small market team. There salary last year was 67 Mill.

The Jazz are in cap trouble not because they are small market but because they are not managed well.

AT 80 Mill or higher next year they should be afford the talent to beat LA. They wwill be lucky to make the playoffs. They probably will just because POR is in financial meltdown and HOU is so injury prone.

That is not much for 80 Mill especially when a 1/3 of the NBA are giving some of their best players away.

Small wonder the Jazz fans are frustrated.

Make some meaningful effective changes. If you give Okur and Boozer raises the Jazz will be closer to 90 Mill than 80.

You can get a team with a Kobe, James, Howard or KG for that!
Korver & Milsap | 9:42 p.m. June 29, 2009
great guys, great role models, not so great for the Jazz! Korver shots didn't fall last year, defense needs help (at least he tries),Milsap under size for a starter (LA did a serious beat down).Need some length and defense. Kaman and Artest neither one should be to expensive.
Good news... | 9:51 p.m. June 29, 2009
Good news, glad to Korver will be back, and I don't think the Jazz will be looking to trade him unless a unique opportunity arises. Miller (Greg) was pretty clear about wanting Korver back.... and with his wrist cleaned out (and hopefully healing well), and possibly better coaching decisions from Sloan... should be a good year for Kyle!
On a side note... this has nothing to do with Almond not being back. I think Almond's fate was sealed a while back, when the Jazz opted NOT to pick up the option on his contract, right?
pdhitman | 11:52 p.m. June 29, 2009
i hope everyone will not opt out so that next summer we have good salary cap by then.
tyballa | 1:04 a.m. June 30, 2009
good news about korver.. we need his outside shooting to spread the floor. boozer is going to opt in. the jazz should definately explore sign and trade ideas for him. we need defense and toughness
Anonymous | 2:03 a.m. June 30, 2009
Boozer's attitude is not very pleasing right now, he said before that he will definitely opt out, but now we can't hear from him even from his agent, maybe after hearing that only Pistons is interested in him and also the Pistons said that they are not willing to pay Boozer big bucks that he desired, Boozer made a mistake saying to media that he will opt out, now he is eating his words, poor Boozer
Anonymous | 2:16 a.m. June 30, 2009
we re-sign Millsap and Memo, trade Boozer if he decides to stay, Boozer is not committed so why stick with him for another year? he would be gone afterall because that's what he wants, we can trust a guy like that, just like AK who wants to be traded before, a team with those kind of players won't win a championship, the problem with AK is that even if we want to trade him it is impossible, we are stuck with AK until his contract ends, poor JAzz
jazzrule | 5:38 a.m. June 30, 2009
Pastor88 - AK can not rework his contract and emd load it according to the collective bargaining agreement. I see this again and again. AK can not take less even if he wanted to.
liberal larry | 5:49 a.m. June 30, 2009
I love watching Korver get interviewed after a game, his head looks like it's on a swivel. Either he has a minor case of Tourette syndrome, or he is checking out all the women in the stands.
Kevin OC | 6:03 a.m. June 30, 2009
Korver is a highly tradeable asset. Productive player with an expiring deal. Look for the Jazz to package Kyle and Harpring to get back some help at center- someone like Tyson Chandler. If booz opts in with the jazz, okur will have to be gone. Chandler trade and we're looking at a solid team with more defense.
anonymous | 6:22 a.m. June 30, 2009
Looks like it is going to come down to who the Jazz want more, Okur or Millsap. I don't see any way that they can resign these two with Korver and Boozer not opting out. This team is not an $80+ million roster. NO WAY. I predict that Memo will sign elsewhere, Jazz retain Sap, and the starting center next season will be Collins. Sloan loves Collins and there is no way that he won't be resigned.
Oh please | 6:42 a.m. June 30, 2009
If Boozer stays he will get an "injury" and sit in the sun somewhere getting a tan and "getting better." Let him go. Nobody else wants him. Let him sit on his butt somewhere without his 12 million next year. He has never wanted to be here. His attitude has always been suspect.
Observation-ist | 6:54 a.m. June 30, 2009
There's a thief among us. Boozer's being paid closer to his value than AK ($17,000,000). I still like the idea of trading Boozer to Detroit for Rip Hamilton. I'm glad to have Kyle back. I hope his wrist has healed.
Matt | 6:57 a.m. June 30, 2009
Does the Deseret News do any reporting itself, or does it just read ESPN.com and spit it back at us?
Millsap may be GONE | 6:59 a.m. June 30, 2009
Rumor is that OKC will offer 65 Mill for 5 years. DET is going after Villanueva and Gordon as Boozer costs to much.

Dumars looked dumb all year when AI was playing/sitting but now he has the pick of the 2009 FAs and little competition. The Jazz could have 2010 cap space depending on how they handle this season but there will be a lot of competition.

Teams like SA and LA get the right key players and then rotate role players. That is one major reason they are winners.

The Jazz get role players with deficiencies, pay them to much and don't get better ones when needed.

Sloan is one of the driving forces behind continuity/mediocrity. It is his personality. Don't try to tell me the triangle offense is any easier/faster to learn than the Sloan system.

The Jazz have to get the right key players. They then have to get role players who do not have holes in parts of their game and actively manage their cap.

The Jazz will probably promote an assistant coach when Sloan retires. However, they may need to change systems?

KOC seems capable when not shackled.
trandkj | 7:14 a.m. June 30, 2009
I don't understand the angst. Boozer opting in is great for us because he becomes very valuable trade bait--we lose nothing! I wouldn't be surprised at all to see a deal soon for Rip Hamilton or Tayshaun Prince, or something similar. Millsap's upside and loyalty coupled with his far superior defense make him more valuable than Boozer--so thank you and goodbye. Rip or Tayshaun's defense, intensity and shooting will help the team immensely. I see Ronnie B. either moving to SF or staying at SG depending on who we get. The line-ups/personalities (below) could quickly jell, and although some would consider the change minimal, I believe the change would deliver a markedly stronger team--somewhat similar to the change Denver saw with Billups coming in for AI. Thoughts?

Starters:
Deron
Rip or Ronnie
Ronnie or Tayshaun
Millsap
Okur or Koufus (I'd love to see Memo coming off the benchalthough playing more minutes)

Primary Bench:
Maynor or Price--situation dependent
Korver
CJ / Harpring--situation dependent
AK
Koufus or Memo then Feshenko

Gortat is available | 7:27 a.m. June 30, 2009
but Utah will have to outbid HOU who needs a C. However, HOU may go after McDyess. OLR is not willing to go over 5 Mill to keep Gortat as they are deep in the Lux tax if they keep Turkoglu.

I think the Jazz org blew it by not cutting a long term deal with Millsap early last year. They though they had a championship team at the start of last year. It might have been smart to lock him up then for cheap.
who will shoot the 3 ... | 7:33 a.m. June 30, 2009
if we let Memo go and package Korver and Harp for a trade, who will be an outside threat? I LOVE the idea of getting a defensive center but you can't play inside-out with a post-up PF if the defense can sag in the paint!
if Booz opts IN ... | 7:36 a.m. June 30, 2009
TRADE HIS SELFISH BUTT ASAP! We need players who can make 3s and we need a defensive center - Booz is neither!
