read DX draft review about Mr. Maynor
Website lists among negatives: "average athleticism", "erratic 3 point shot", "poor shot selection", "turnover prone".
I did not include everything.
Sweet. After hansbrough, competitve and intangibles. Reminds me of devin harris, and i think he'll get along withh sloan. sssweeettt. someone who wants to play who competes, swweeett. not someone collecting a paycheck.
by the way, I did not mention the DX report say he is not exactly great "defensively"
Remember he was drafter allegedly to back up DWIL. I could have seen him as a #2 guard with a taller point with another roster or off the bench as scorer. He would be better backing up Brewer if he is going to make the impact needed although occasionally he could spell DwiL AND CHANGE OFF.
I think it was a descent pick, Manor has mental toughness, great pick!
How about you watch him play yourself and make your own judgements Todd. Whenever he has played against skilled PG's he always hassles them defensively. He is also a point that looked to get teammates involved early and then late in the game forced some stuff when trying to come back (a lot like Deron Williams at times). He's not great, but he is a good 20th pick.
Maynor was the best available point guard at #20. In ESPN's top 100 he was #12 ahead of Jeff Teague. However, most of the Jazz fans were wanting Teague since he's played against BYU one game here so we know more about him than Maynor. I thought DeJuan Blair was worth the risk at 20 but what would we do with 2 Milsap-type players. San Antonio will be good with him if his knees hold up (ex. Chris Borchard).
After all this was just a bad bunch of rookies this year. I don't think that anyone got a real gem, including the Clips. Most of the time it's who you surround these young men with and the playing styles of the teams that draft them that is the big measuring stick as to their future and fortunes. I want too see some action in the trade market, thats where the proven ones are. We must wait until tuesday to determine what we must do in the trade and free agent market this year. I just hope this management knows that they have some big issues to address this year. Like defense and toughness to mention a couple.
The fact that so many of you are complaining about the choice is good news. The last point guard that was booed on draft day ended up pritty good, like the all time assist leader.
If maynor works out you can move Dwill to the 2 and play them both together. like the Jazz did with Fisher when he was here. it would cause matchup problems all oever the leage.
When Dwill and Fish were in the backcourt together gee they won the division and made it to the Western conferance finals. the Lakers would not be World Chapians with out fish to take pressure off of Koby. Laker fans and Jazz haiters everywhere thank Larry H for gifting Fisher to the Lakers. Manor may be the key to getting that kind of spark back.
huh scott, actually I never said Eric cannot play. the times I saw him he did fine, the Jazz had this as a need but to me i play a guy like this as a #2 guard who can shoot and ok 36 percent of 3s last year. But he is small
You guys get this wrong, few are bagging on the player
IT IS ABOUT THE MOST PRESSING JAZZ NEEDS
I think that NBA teams over the past 25 years have focused too much on body type and athleticism and not enough on a team-first attitude and shooting ability. You cannot win without putting the ball in the hoop. You cannot win consistently without relying on team play. You can turn on almost any NBA game for five minutes, and if one team is relying more on 1-on-1 moves than on team play, you can predict the winner at least 75% of the time by voting against the team relying on 1-on-1, and this is regardless of how good that guy is. Jordan began winning when he stopped hogging the ball and passing to the open guy. Ditto with Kobe. LeBron is already a great team-oriented player -- he just needs better players on his team. As for the Jazz, they do fine until the last few minutes of important games, and then sometimes a player decides to try to win the game himself, and that's when things go south -- whether that's Boozer or Williams or AK. The Jazz have had only two players capable of taking over games -- Stockton and Dantley.
on Dantley. Dantley is one of my all time favorites and is my most favorite Jazz "ever" then Stock. However, he could not win that many games by himself. he kept them in games., competitive when they had no right to be and was big of course on 1st division title.
remember the vast majority of his career here he was on 25-30 win teams
All you all are crying about a team that is freaking great... If all the peaces were healthy last year they would would have been right there! That's just how it goes sometime! If we could get everyone back and eat the luxury we would be right there this year... Most teams in the league would die to have our guys!
Re: Rich
Did you never hear of Pistol Pete? That guy was born 2 decades too early. If he would have played in the mid 90s or now, he would be in the discusion of the greatest players ever. The guy only played college ball for 3 years and still has the scoring record by a long shot without the 3point line! That guy was definetely the most skilled dribbler of the ball ever and might have been one of the best shooters.
..The N B(oring)A draft last night. I was watching my grass grow as the paint on my house dried. I couldn't have added the draft excitement to my evening without risking cardiac arrest.
you are a joke. please stop posting. most of that scouting report you put up is from DX?? what is DX?? how about you check some scouting reports from the real analysts such as maybe hmm.... ESPN. they agree he is a great pick and has intangibles that most players don't have.
Maynor is a fine pick....he can't be any worse than rookie year Kobe throwing up airballs in the NBA Semifinals?
If I were KOConnor...I would have taken Ellington with the pick, he might have beat out Brewer and couldn't be any worse than Almond
People can't spell and that is sad. Wayne, Trueblue to name a few.
One the TOUGH Pitt forwards were the pick! Third- team point guards are in the D league!

My guess is Todd from Santa Ana writes for DX. Like others have stated, this draft was weak. Even in good years, the best you can usually hope for at #20 is a decent backup.
Look back at the past several drafts from #20-#30. You find an occasional sleeper, but most of the guys drafted late are career backups or even out of the league after their initial contract is up.
Backup PG was a HUGE need for Utah.
1. Knight is an UFA. And we don't want him back.
2. Price is also an unrestricted FA. I'm sure Utah will make him an offer, but there's no guarantee he re-signs.
3. Maynor can be a solid backup. And if we run up against teams that press, or run a 3-guard offense, he and DWill can play at the same time.
Our production really dropped off when DWill came out. I don't think you want to play Williams 40 mins. per game. About 36 is optimal.
We are going to be fine next year and the year after that and that ect. The main pieces are in place now and we only need a little tweaking of 2 players with the right attitude. Booze is gone one way or the other and after we get A.K. out of here we will be fine. This team needs cohesiveness and players that like each other that are all on the same page. I like whats happening and look forward to this and many more seasons.
