I commend the board member for being strong enough to stand for what is right. I am saddened that the school would choose to remove her instead of standing up to their faults and changing. It is sad to find retaliation so prevalent and excused here in Utah. If you are out of compliance recognize it change it and move on. What does this school teach the children especially with this example they are setting forth?

Yet another charter bites the dust.

I wish they told more of the story. Did she take these concerns to the board before contacting the state agency? Or is this a case of sour grapes where someone is trying to destroy the school. These are not very big issues. I wish the school well. We need more choice in education.

Now here is something you won't see in a REAL school.

Yes Annon, you won't HEAR about this is a REAL school because the REAL schools always hide these things. It'd surprise you how many REAL schools are in violation of State and Federal mandates regarding just Special Education. Few have all their files in order unless they are about to be audited. Then we have all the errors involving the State data base of teachers. Our record keeping in Public Education as a whole is incredibly poor.

Her actions of going to the media and not following proper channels of reporting is what has her in hot water. When this happens at a regular school things are fixed behind closed doors. That she apparantly did not is more than grounds for dismissal. She should have gone with the errors to the school board before reporting to the state since they are the ones who had to correct the problem. She seems to have done everything out of proper order and should step down.

Annon. Charter Schools are PUBLIC schools and very real to the families who choose to attend. They are not perfect nor are traditional schools. They are a CHOICE within the PUBLIC school system serving more than 25,000 kids in Utah.

I sincerely hope that Utahans that care about education can set aside their political differences and focus on the kids getting quality education.

This story seems to miss the point. In a case where there is obviously division in a board shouldn't we celebrate that democracy works and the the board can work quickly to do what they see as best for the school and the kids.

Compliance is important and if this were a safety issue I'd be worried. This is a reporting mistake, not the end of the world. The good news here is that the State Charter School Board is working with this school to get back into compliance (there are schools all over the state out of reporting compliance), the only story here is that there is one board member who chose to be a "whistle blower" rather than a team player.

Yes, she did take her concerns to the Board and the Administration before going to the State Charter School Board. The concerns were dismissed before the State Charter School Board got involved. Just goes to show that even Charter Schools have an "old boys network".

Yes, obey the law and you will be called a "whistle blower" and lose your job.

Disobey the law and you will be called a team player.

Nice message for the kids to learn...
