I don't quite understand.

School has always been about investing in the future. Isn't being in school a great way to be insulated from a poor economy? You aren't working and yes it is expensive but it is expensive if you are in a good economy or a bad one. Most people pay for it with debt. The pay off being when you graduate the economy will hopefully be better and you will have a much higher ability to earn income?

This is really a short sighted decision. I firmly believe most people make decisions that are absolutey sub-optimal because of the here and now rather than their true best interests.

It's not really the horrors of the economy. College tuition rises way higher than the cost of living. It's worse than the oil company in greed.

The truth is a private school isn't going to earn you more money than a public university, also ridiculously expensive. When you get out of school you'll earn 30-50K. How long will it take to pay back those loans and live in the meantime? Especially if you chose a career where you need graduate school as well. A lot of money when 40K a year less will get you the same degree.

Hey K,

Since the oil companies averaged about 10% in profit when oil was $4/gal, most of the businesses in your town are probably "greedier" than oil companies too!
