good call on holding back the chemo and radiation for now. you can only dose so much radiation and if there were clear margins and no liver/lung mets then save the bad side effects of chemo and rads for later just in case the tumor comes back. no sense in creating tumor clones resistant to the chemo this early in the process. perhaps the tumor is more similar to a carcinoid (well differentiated) than a small cell carcinoma (poorly differentiated). could be an islet cell tumor type as well. not enough information for us to make the call as lay folks. the tumor board would have been interesting to listen to.

It's not just great news; it's much better news than the misleading headline would have us believe. There's a difference between "cancer in remission" and "no detectible cancer." If I read this and other news reports correctly, Coach Rose has no detectible cancer.

Dr. Samuelson said at the press conference that word that is used to describe Rose's cancer condition is "remission."

From BYU's web site, this is what the doctor said when asked if Rose was cancer free:
"The correct way of thinking would be remission or no evidence of disease. That would be the technical term."
