If America were to be "NUKED" today, Obama would surrender as long as his family is promised the White House, Air Force 1 and the ability to plant a garden.
"YES WE CAN"
For some reason, I don't feel betrayed when Democrats are liberal and when Democrats lie. I don't feel betrayed when Democrats raise my taxes and when Democrats make goverment bigger. For Democrats, those things are natural.
However, I do feel betrayed by the GOP. When George W. Bush selects Harriet Myers as the next Supreme Court Justice, I feel betrayed. When President Bush signs Teddy Kennedy's "No Child Left Behind" Bill, I feel betrayed. When the Bush Administration regulated the economy so as to push money out of the banks and inflate the housing market and cheapen the US Dollar (thus causing a global recession), I felt betrayed. When the GOP selects John McCain as the presidential nominee... must I go on?
You wanna know why the GOP is in turmoil? Because it is not the Party of Liberalism. Bush, McCain, Romney, Luger, Hatch, Bennett, Rick Perry - all of them are kowtowing to the Obama Regime.
Palin? There's a breath of fresh air. Same with Huckabee and Cantor - so why is the RNC trying to silence them?
Conservative must now look elsewhere.
Won't last in this country, we will sample it, taste it and throw it back into the Democrats faces to the extent that it just may create havoc with the party of Teflon and Destruction.
Wow, this is an all time low for even Sewell. while lambasting the republicans for loosing by being all talk and no plan the only thing he added to the conversation was bitter vitriol towards the current administration.
They are playing the game as badly as they ran the country. What a disaster!
The republicans are doing just fine as they are, thomas. May there be much more infighting and kissing up to the religious right, along with the stellar leadership of limbaugh.
This is just a terribly reasoned editorial. His train of thought wanders all over the place, and he fails to mention that the republicans had almost total control during 6 of Bush's 8 years, and they over spent, and got us involved in TWO wars. Most people in this country are moderate conservatives, and bare no resemblance to the "movement conservatives" Mr. Sowell hangs with.
When exactly was that poll Mr. Sewell makes vague reference to happen? I was just on Gallop's website and found no such poll.
It is absolutely absurd to say that the national debt has quadrupled in a year. It has increased by about ten percent. If Mr. Sowell is so wildly wrong on his math, why should we trust him on anything else?
I had no problem following the main thrust of Dr. Sowell article. The Republicans abandoned the conservatives and attempt to be democrats lite. Citing John McCain, Bob Dole and George Bush, it's not a winning strategy. Tai of Midvale says it clearly. Of course liberals and democrats hope the the Republicans will continue trying to be democrats. Unless they give the conservative populace a genuine alternative, they will continue to lose the elections.
The public debt on June 25, 2008 was 9,370,924,106,133.47 that would mean that the nation debt would have to be 37,4836,424,533.88 today the actual debt as of June 25, 2009 is 11,407,973,761,151.02 which means his assertion is almost four times removed from reality. I find it disturbing that the DN continues to publish articles by a supposed professional that has such endless problems with the credibility of is facts.
"accepting a nuclear-armed sponsor of international terrorism like Iran" When exactly did Obama say that a "nuclear-armed Iran" was acceptable? I must have missed that.
way to step up there and prove Sowells point about the republican mind set. At least Sowell got one thing right.
Forget the "game"...
....Republicans need to learn how not to drool while sitting up straight....good luck!
"Mooshy Moderates"
Really? that is what this country needs more of. Sowell's essay is full of pompus idiocy as usual.

//Forget the "game"...//
It's all about the game, and how you play it.
Before the Republicans can rethink any thing they must first learn how to think. And then they should realize that many Americans are learning how to think and the false fear war mongering wont work any more.
The statement Just two nuclear bombs were enough to get Japan to surrender in World War II. It is hard to believe that it would take much more than that for the United States of America to surrender is a perfect example of how the Republicans view the intelligence of the American people. Japan was presented with an astronomical superior weapon compared to their capabilities and reacted as expected. Two atomic bombs set off in America would only serve as an irritation as we rolled out our capability to kill every living thing on earth several times over.
Their quest for profits brought by the endless war blinds the Republicans to the point where they can not see the real danger headed our way. The next (or current) war is a war for the minds of men and women. Territorial boundaries and borders mean nothing in this war of Religions and mental strategies and the weapons of military war are obsolete.
the pubs have been caught in a game they cannot win; When the compete with the dems to see who will give (redistribute) the most to the entitilement class for votes, they loose every time. Why? because nobody is more willing to sell out our freedom and our treasure than the dems. The pubs run a close second. But, second means runner up.
Bizarre view of history. Reagan didn't do anything about Iran except sell them weapons. Under the Republicans the USA is governed of, by, and for the benefit of the wealthy corporations. And that is what has gotten us into this mess in the first place.
Any time I see an article by Thomas Sowell I am thrilled to read it. The man is smarter than most of our Presidents have been. I hope he keeps telling it like it is, so that maybe the lies the Liberals keep telling, that idiots keep believing, will start being seen as the myths they are.
