Independent audit instead

An internal audit can just be swept under the rug.

The taxpaying citizens of Utah should demand an independent audit of the Utah Transit Authority.

Duh

Headline writers need to read the article. They aren't adding an auditor to the board, the auditor will review the conflict of interest disclosures.

UTA is under nearly constant legislative audit because of legislators that wonder why state agencies aren't as innovative in developing projects and completing them on time and under budget.

Sufficient Checks In Place

If you are going to require another independant audit/review of UTA, who is going to pay for it?

In addition to UTA's internal audits and checks, UTA is regularly reviewed and audited by UDOT, the FTA and FRA, ISO and other agencies and companies. I think there are already enough checks and balances in place. We don't need to waste taxpayer money for another outside auditor or agency to step in. Instead, if needed, modifications or policy changes should be made within the existing regulatory structure.
