Trash has been collected? Get bin off the curb

Developement problem | 6:20 a.m. June 23, 2009
Although such an ordinance may inhibit in some areas, there is no need for a county wide ordinance. Many cities in the county have addressed this problem with their own ordinances with various reasons.

With the rush to over develop the canyons with houses this is an issue that should have been part of developing the canyons. Installing off road pickup spots would have been much better than any need for a law to punish. Perhaps a law restricting the use of canyons by cyclists and joggers on trash pickup days where containers may interfere would make more sense. Not only is there the containers, there are the trash collectors and their large trucks and frequent stops to contend with. A centralized trash collection will inhibit homeowners and make it more dangerous for them to trek to the dumpsters, especially in the winter months.

I've biked up the canyon several times a month and garbage cans are always an issue. People leave them out all week long. You have garbage can alleys that have dozens of cans just lining the streets. Not only does it make it unsafe for me, but when the wind blows in the canyon the cans fall over and spread trash all over the road.

A central drop off is needed. I'm glad it's coming.
Safety for all | 8:10 a.m. June 23, 2009
It is a wise ordinance when the safety of the public is involved. Trash cans left out are a concern for not only bicyclists but walkers and joggers. It is also dangerous for drivers trying to avoid these people if they have to go around trash cans left out. This is an enforcement of good common sense for those who don't realize the impact. A side benefit of this is keeping our streets clean. Who wants to see trash cans left out more than it is necessary!

Just be a good neighbor and take your cans in.

i leave mine in front of my house on purpose, so the morons next door with 50 people in the house and a billions cars, can't park their junky cars in front of my house. I would rather two garbage cans then 5 gangbanger cars.

The ordinance is for unincorporated county; municipalities have their own ordinances.

I leave my on the curb for 4-5 days because my jerk neighbor parks in front my house instead of his own if I don't.

Great curb appeal with trash cans in front of the house.

I leave to work before the Garbage guy picks up our trash, so my cans will have to remain on the street until after or around 7:oo pm the same evening.....and nothing we can do about that.

Some posters above need to find other ways to deal with their perceptions of their neighbors. This ordinance is an example of governmenet overreach, maybe some residents need this kind of rule before they'll behave civilly, but jeesh, doesn't gov't have more important stuff to do??

I'm a regular bicycle rider. Bad drivers are the single biggest problem on the road, not garbage cans, not normal drivers. Bad drivers, impatient, judgemental, distracted, non-observant, inept, and out to get me. Can't you drivers drive smarter?

"Can't you drivers drive smarter?"
Can't cyclists obey the law? You know, actually stop for traffic signals, signal before making a turn, not weave in and out of traffic, etc.

Maybe the city needs to build wider streets>

How about just being good neighbors? I live in a relative nice area where homes are for the most part kept up. The beauty of the trash cans just is a problem and detracts significantly on our area. Put it out in the morning and take it in at evening. No big deal

"I leave my on the curb for 4-5 days because my jerk neighbor parks in front my house instead of his own if I don't."

Not that I can't appreciate the frustration of having other people's cars in front of my house, but you don't own the street, or the space do you?

Lighten up. Depending on where you live, you park where you can get a spot.

That spot in front of your house, unless its private property, can be parked in by anyone. If your trash cans were in the way, I'd move them up to your yard and park in the space available.
