If we could eliminate the drug industry's monopoly of costs, the hospital's over-charging of patients because the uninsured flood the ER's, and guarantee that the new health care system would be carefully regulated and that abuse would be prevented, I'll all for universal health care.
Can anyone believe a poll conducted by the NY Times and CBS? Not at all. It comes just in time for the attempt by ABC and Obama's televised sales pitch at the WH. This is a gross attempt to brain wash the American people. Shame on the NY Times and ABC. Your ratings have just gotten lower. Journalism is no longer a profession, but a lobbist seeking political favors. Shameful.
Our country is in a little bit of a crisis; but alas, all is not lost. There is hope. Nationalizing healthcare is definitely not the answer to our problems. America is built upon the foundation of freedom and equal opportunity. Competition between businesses is what has made those businesses and our country thrive. We as fellow Americans have found amazing and innovative ways to make this country great. By nationalizing everything, taking away the competition, and essentially become a socialist country, we will lose what makes us great. And then, America, will fall.
I would trust the recent Pew Research poll (18 June 2009) which shows exactly the opposite results. There's a link on the Drudge Report.
The American private sector had has been built upon profit and greed has stole billions from Americans and has lost the confidence of the American public. The public image campaign by same entrenched industrial businesses that stand to lose tens of millions of dollars that has ripped off the American consumer has attempted to define government as bad and evil. Yet the last national election has demonstrated that the majority of Americans would rather trust an elected government rather than corporate businesses that depend on providing a profit to its investors not the public.
While a majority of small and medium sized businesses as well as a number of major corporations try to balance profit and consumer satisfaction, the real best deal is maintaining a partnership between government and business to provide both public service and a comfortable margin of profit that reflects the real value of the services provided.
Insanity is doing the same thing day after day expecting different results.
Ethics is terrible right now in the pharmaceutical and healthcare industry.
Action Now on changing health industry to focus on care instead of profits will change our path.
Whether the path is better or worse will depend upon the ethics of our elected officials.
In the current health system, we have no control over changing the leaders of the pharmaceutical, medical and insurance industry.
However, we have control to change elected officials by our vote if they dont act according to our interests.
Give Care back the control instead of profit.
Bankers tried to produce fear into people to stop credit unions from becoming available. Credit Unions altered the huge control the rich banks had on everyone.
Start the Care. Stop the Fear.
While holidaying recently in a foreign country, it was noticed that the focus was on care and it was a government system.
The Doctor mentioned that the focus was on finding and eliminating the cause of the problem. Efficiency eliminates costs and not quantity of visits.
Healthy lifestyles were encouraged universally. Healthy natural foods were more accessible and available than junk foods.
Change!
How are we going to pay for this? More debt piled ever deeper on our grandchildren?
I see where the proposed bill has a clause in it that states, that congress and all of their staffers will not have to participate in the new health plan. That tells you all you need to know.
Amen!!
Private sector can never solve the health dilemmna.
First of all they are not transparent, they are out to make a dollar$$$(lots of them) if you know what I mean. But MOST importantly they are the "Lobbyists" who lobby for biased legislation to favour their bottom line. Greed replaces Compassion
How can you have private sector resolve a failing system that has caused the failure by high insurance costs and premiums, excluding the less fortunate.
During the Great Depression it was CONGRESS who set up "Social Security" (the Government)cause the banks and private industry failed..the cause back then as it is now GREED. Shut up Goerge Bush..the American people have spoken at the polls! You have squandered the billions of the taxpayers money for your enterprises (war and Enron) to name a couple. That equates to more patients (VA hospitals) and less money for the health of a nation
Any nationalizing of any industry is very poor judgment. This so called national health care program is the worst thing for the economy now and in the future. What many think is that they are approving health care as being nationalized similar to Canada or other countries. The plan here in America is not to nationalize all health care but insurance only. Insurance is only a trickle of the cost of health care compared to the monopoly in the health care and drug industry. In Canada, the doctors, hospitals, drug companies are all nationalized and there is no insurance involved.
The american people are in for a rude awakening when they face a large tax to provide just the medical insurance ignoring the escalating costs of medical care. This plan has nowhere to go but up in taxation and down in medical services.
There is no such thing as free, even in nationalized insurance. Along with failed Medicare, Medicaid, and the SSA, we also face another failure in a new medical services program run by new taxation and government.
These reports and polls are misleading the american people into believing in this farce.
The title seems VERY misleading,
when you read the details there seems very little support or desire for federal run healthcare.
And with good reason,
NO one a giovernmement bureaurocrat calling the shots,
denying you care,
telling you how much can make,
taking away incentive for research and development,
taking away incentive to become a helathcare professional,
taking away incentive for businees to offer healthcare,
increasing your taxes,
increasing the national debt to (can spend 1.6 trillion and only get 1/3 the uninsured insured)
So very little upside and so VERY GREAT downside.
How about fix things so people do NOT NEED insurance for basic health care?
We the American people want to know the following details of the new healthcare plan?
1) What the desired result will be? Quality Healthcare for all?
2) What date is set for Achievement?
3) What are the obstacles that are to be overcome to accomplish it?
4) Who are the people, groups, and Organizations to work with to accomplish it?
5) What are the skills and knowledge required to accomplish the goal?
6) What is the Plan of Action, Daily, weekly, monthly timeframes to implement it?
7) What are the attached rewards for achieving each part of the plan and attached penalties for not achieving them?
8) What are the benefits? What is in it for all of us?
Again, it should be a non profit program based on care, not on profits.
Real change will happen if we place a law on congress and elected officials that they are required to use the same healthcare that every american uses.
One that is non profit based and have ethic controls.
How are we going to pay for "free" health care? More red ink?
Anybody got an extra $1.6 trillion hanging around?
With things of a political nature, I too view the NY Times with distrust. The reporters of this article touted 1 in 4 Republicans claiming Democrats can do better on health care. Guess what? That means 3 in 4 don't! That's still an overwhelming majority.
One poster pointed to Social Security being founded by Congress. Guess what my friend? That is on its way to destruction, insolvency being the problem.
I agree that lobbyists are a problem. Why do members of Congress turn to lobbying upon leaving office? Congress is a problem because it gives in to lobbyists. Not all lobbyists work for the private sector. I honestly believe that the private sector can do a better job on health care issues and reform than Congress and government-run plans and entities.
And about telling Pres Bush to shut up, is that really necessary? Yeah, we know that Obama won and is now president. He didn't beat Bush. Bush couldn't run anymore. All this "we won" attitude from the current president just smacks of the arrogance he and others accused President Bush of.
