Reality

Democrats will never take over the govenors office with the spending that they approve.

Observation-ist

Democrats can raise all the money imaginable but if they welcome Pres Obama or other liberal politicians to the state they will be lumped in with the liberal left and that's a death sentence in this crimson RED state. As long as democrats embrace politicians such as Rocky Anderson, they'll retain their hold on the liberal bastian of SLC but most of Utah is Reagan RED.

with the way obama is going they will be lucky to not lose big in 2010. the few independences are already asking what have we done.

Reagan Red?

Why not Bush red?

I mean its been 20+ years since Reagan left office and 12 years of Republican presidential administrations. Too bad you have to go back to Reagan to find a hero.

Maybe the republicans should be more careful about who they run for office.

The problem isn't "getting your message out," you need to change your message. Democrats have all the wrong values for Utah. Utah Democrats, by in large, parrot whatever the national Democratic party line is--and that is not going to fly very far in Utah.

The Truth

Democrats do tear down walls, but only the ones that make us vulnerable to our enemies.

tired

I'm tired of a media that goes along with the Dem's no matter how wrong they are. The group in Washington governs as if they hate what America is.

Agreed!

Wow, have you got that right!!!!

Here's Your Sign

Democrats try to tear down walls?

Ha! Ha! Ha! Gear real....

The only walls they try to tear down are the walls of common sense.

Man, will you guys have a lot to answer for when you die.

Liberal fools will say "Oh yeah, what about going to war for oil!"

Whatever.

Even if it were true, which is isn't, the number of lives simply PALES IN COMPARISON to the number of children killed by a little thing called abortion.

Abortion in America; it isn't exactly embraced by conservatives....

It looks like those walls in Utah are plenty thick to me.

Rob

The photography attached to this article is great. Nice work Des News!

Wishful thinking

Fuhrer Obama has awakened and galvanized conservatives all across the country, including in Utah. The revolution that is coming is one in which conservatives bring some sanity back to our federal and state government, not Democrats breaking down "walls" in Utah. (Yes, that's a shot at Governor John "Civil Union, Global Warming" Huntsman, Jr.) SLC just loves Carroon and Matheson, doesn't it. Fortunately, SLC will not determine our next governor.

National Democrats

National democratic party is controlled by extreme left-wing idealogues like Nancy Pelosi who want to impose massive new taxes and redistribute our wealth. THese are not Utah values. I feel sorry for Utah democrats wanting to gain a foot hold in the State and then have to defend such massive interventionist policies. Just this morning, read how Democrats are looking at several new ways to tax us --taxes on soda, taxes on health benefits, taxes on "the rich." I know some local democratic officeholders who are good, decent people. Would that there were more of them nationally. They will always be marginalized in Wasington until the national democratic party wises-up. I'm not holding my breath.

Rampton

If any of you had the knowledge as to why the Democrats will never ever be able to tear down the walls in Utah, all one has to do is reflect back to how Gov. Rampton taxed Utahn's to death.

Democrats are now destroying the country, how long will it last? 4 years at best, then it will be one and done for Obama, who will go out with the name of being the "WORST" President this country has ever seen!

Rs, looking the mirror

its gonna be fun to see all these Rs commenting eat crow...
Ds bring so much more to the table:

1) health care -- at least talking about a fix to a fragmented and costly system
2) immigration -- a practicable solution (normalization) that reflects reality on the ground (was good to read about that RM group supporting immigrants ... last time i checked the native americans, the original americans, never check us caucasians' ancestors when they stepped off the mayflower)
3) taxes -- what a great idea it was to have two tax cuts in a time war.
4) social issues -- choice, gay rights... the youth of america have it right / judge not lest you be judged and keep out of my bedroom -- could care less what you do in yours

so there you have it. the reason why, esp outside of utah (and maybe someday IN utah) the Ds are the party of the future.

happy valley Rs should just build up their walls and keep downing the prozac.

Great Wall of America

The only real Wall in America is the one between government and the people. Regardless of party and who is elected, government has erected this wall to keep citizens out of government and care for their own interests. Government has become self serving to feed on the citizens for taxes rather than be a government of the people. Government has declared itself to represent government, not the people, and this is destroying our constitution and freedoms.

Lets see you blowhards tear down this wall.

Re: Great Wall of America

Don't waste your time here. Most of these people can't think for themselves. They think that the government is the solution to every problem they face. They sit and bicker about who is worse, Bush or Obama and can't see the bigger picture. Bush set Obama up to do whatever he wanted all in the name of "saving" our nation. Obama has been given a free pass to spend like no other before him and nobody is questioning him. Bush/Obama are two sides of the same coin. Hopefully someday all this rhetoric about D's and R's will end and people will wise up to what is really going on.

Boy, the radical right wing is out in force! I would bet that if you polled Utahns on the ACTUAL principles of the national Democratic Party, without labels attached to that poll, Utahns would agree more than disagree. Democrats have brand issues in Utah, suffer from misperceptions and, frankly, lies, which are promoted by the Republicans, and the GOP has co-opted the LDS Church, leading many to assume that the Church and the GOP are one and the same. It is really a matter of knowledge and information against what is essentially peer and social pressure. No one wants to be told that you can't be a good Mormon and a Democrat as I was done in 1976, just off a mission. The irony is that the self-righteous person who told me that pulled a Sen. Ensign. Lots of arguments could be made that the principles of the Democratic Party are actually more in keeping with actual LDS principles, but I think it is self-serving for anyone to advance the notion that their party is the righteous party. But the GOP has exploited this in Utah with great success.

Rs, looking the mirror | 7:07 a.m. June 21, 2009 explans why democrats will fail again
When Rocky Anderson is the best they can do - Chris Butters looks good in comparison lol

Nancy

Most the comments here have nothing to do with yesterday's event. Had many of these commenters been there they would have seen why Utahns are becoming more comfortable with Utah Democrats.

They would have seen two of Utah's favorite elected officials speak, Peter Corroon and Jim Matheson. They would have seen the party delegates and mandate the re-election of Wayne Holland by 87% of the delegate vote. And, they would have seen this truth, that Utah Democrats are a family friendly party. I don't know his name, but the sweetest moment occurred when the emcee of yesterdays convention allowed his little boy to sit with him on stage. After the current speaker was finished he introduced his entire family and it was obvious that that man is in love with his family.

You can continue to bash Democrats for reasons that have nothing to do with the people in the Utah Democratic Party, or you can see for yourself that Utah Democrats are great people.
