What a surprise. Not.
great news
now dump the small theater too
There was never any justification in this market for one 2,500 "Broadway-style" theater, let alone two. If there had been, private developers would have put them up long ago without the need for multi-million dollar government intervention.
The D-news reports that taxes in SLC are going up.
They have to, in part, to pay for the $81 million theater. Good luck SLC citizens.
In Sandy we pay as we go. And if we can't pay for it, it doesn't happen.
Yeah, get the legislature to take tax funds from the rest of SLC County for the soccer stadium.
Class act Sandy.
We'd love to see Broadway shows. They're already too expensive to take the family. I'm happy to support the community theater groups we already have, Sandy, in particular does a great job.
>>In Sandy we pay as we go. And if we can't pay for it, it doesn't happen.
BWAHAhahahah!! Good one.
::wiping tears from my eyes::
Yep, that's what Sandy does all right..... Oh, I cant even get through pretending to say that!
Sandy abuses the almighty tax dollar just as much if not more than other cities. Let's be honest with each other...
Sandy "we're more moral than the rest of you" would have censored nearly all of the "Broadway" shows anyway, so what's the use?
You all shut down Valley Music Hall on "morality" issues back in the 1960s (you know, that nasty Phyllis Diller!)....and then The Church bought it at pennies on the dollar.
That's exactly what would have happened here, too - because you're way too close to Happy Valley.
Now, you're going to have a Mormon Ward Roadshow theater, for local talent? Nice.
Pay as you go? Ha. Come wipe the coffee off my monitor.
"And if we can't pay for it, it doesn't happen."
Just like the soccer stadium that was voted down several times.
Sandy could not have censored or restricted content of a national touring show if they wanted.
They were playing with the big dogs here. If they had tried to censor then the show would have not played and sued the city for breaking the contact.
This is not BYU holding up a piece of paper over the move projector lens and turning the sound down at questionable parts.
I'll believe this development when I see it. It seems the developers have no money of there own (or very little) and are banking on pre-selling everything in order to have the funds to build. Sounds a lot like a lot the now never to be built condo buildings in Las Vegas. By the way what ever happened to that Frank Geary designed project down Lehi way. We were told they were ready to go on that one, seems like they don't want to put there money where there mouth is and now that the wheeling dealing easy credit days are gone, they don't want to pony up there own dough. Anyone and there dog could come up with plans for a development in theory where it can be built it is pre-sold, come on all you real estate moguls put your money where you mouth and if not give a rest to your pipe dreams (funny how Sandy City government fell hook line and sinker for all the grand promises). "Did someone say Monorail"
I've got new for you Sandy folk, your taxes are going up to. The County is raising taxes. In addition, thanks to the State, SLC property owners get to pay more for you to send your 6 kids to elementary school. Nothing like equalization!
