I remember as a kid that I thought all the winters were getting drier and drier with less snowfall to sled on the NE Orem bench. Since then I've seen subtle and even long trends in weather come and go and understood drought better including that it can leave. Still, I feel that the sensitivity to the atomsphere I was taught as a kid applies. Action to prevent worse damage from certain chemicals did slow ozone depletion. Of course that was not the cause of our current trends though they too are tied tightly to a bigger problem, I believe, namely anthropogenic global climate change. While I believe God is in control, He also gives us agency and mankind in general can ruin their planet in a variety of ways including through C02 in mass quantities. I don't see an obvious signal from this weather, but instead an even more insidious subtle one that many people want to dismiss because it's near term complications. That would be a mistake. Better safe than sorry.

This "global warming" phenomenon is really getting to me! I have difficulty tolerating these hot days and hot nights.

Yeah, because there was NEVER any variability in climate before the pioneers arrived here. The weather was perfectly 100% predictable until everyone starting burning coal and buying cars.

Why is it that so many people are willing to suspend disbelief and accept the worst-case scenario without thinking about other possiblities?

The reason we are inclined to so readily believe what we are told by those in "authority" is that it removes our personal responsibility for our actions. If someone tells us that we have to act differently to "save the planet", we are able to excuse our lack of proper response in order to follow a perceived cause larger than ourselves.

As to the rainy weather, why does no one ask why the airport's totals are considered the "Official" amounts? Here in Sugarhouse, we've had a couple of days where it looked like we got the official rain total in about an hour.
