Comments about ‘U.S. climate report dire but offers some hope’

Could be, not will be...more effort to try to impose a carbon tax on us. It's all about money and not about the environment at all!

Of course the report is optimistic about what can be done to fight off this dire threat. If nothing could be done, what would be the justification for taxing the shirt off my back?

Here are some simple facts the "dire" report left out: Sea level is 500' higher now than a few thousand years ago. Lake Bonneville covered much of Utah and Nevada while ice covered much of North America about the same time. It was warmer a thousand years ago (the Viking era) than it is today. Earth's climate has always gone through cycles because of its relationship with the Sun. To presume that man has the power to affect global climate one way or the other is the epitome of arrogance and ignorance. The temperature has DROPPED over the past 10 years! The radicals who want ever more control over our lives -- especially obama and gore are very selective about the "facts" they choose to use in imposing their agenda on the people by fostering fear and panic on a largely ignorant government-educated public. Man-caused global climate change is a scam!

It's June 17th and I'm still wearing a jacket. When is that global warming goint to get here?

I wonder what it will take to stop these lying idiots who keep screaming "The Sky is Falling." Sorry about the misquote, that was Chicken Little's warning after an acorn fell out of a tree any hit him on his head. These socialist thugs "warning" is "The Ocean is Rising". There is equal proof of these two occurances. ZERO! Sure the earth gets a little warmer and then gets a little colder. It is called seasonal change because of the Sun's relationship to where we live. At times winters are colder than usual and summers are hotter. There is no long term trend and here is something else to consider. It snows very rarely at the north and south poles. It all of the glaciers melted at one time the rise in the ocean would be just a few inches. Man made Global Warming isn't happening and no little group of grubby lay abouts who want funding for their half baked theories will change the mind of anyone who really investigates the facts.

Mark my word that there will be a liberal that will come on here and say that these weather phenomena are directly attributed to global warming. When those critics bring up weather conditions that oppose global warming, (the 7 degrees cooler it has been through out the west this spring), the liberals will say don't you know the difference between weather and global warming? But when weather patterns support there religion they say see the weather shows there is global warming. The earth has warmed over the past 30 years but all this warming is within normal earth climate variation. It's not man made, especially not driven by CO2.

Mr. Nay: Thank you for giving voice to the facts so eloquently. Rocky Mountain Power has just taken the first step in "encouraging" conservation by setting a 500KWH per month goal for Wyoming customers and imposing punitive pricing for those who use more electricity monthly. Our WPSC has sold us down the river and is imposing their conviction that conservation is necessary to, as you say, impose this "carbon tax". Thank you Blaine.

The predictions of dire consequences-- harsher weather-- are speculative at best. This is fear-mongering, plain and simple.

We only here one side of this argument so they can scare us into more taxes and debt and get more control over us. With Obama everything is a crises that needs immedite reaction! I'm sick of global warming, I wish it would get here since this has been a mighty cool year overall. Thank you and go out and burn some more fossil fuels with your liberal friends. Just don't tell them it contributes to global warming!

Wow, a scientific report issued by a San Francisco PR firm. I expect politicians to lie, but why must they soil the reputation of all scientists with this farce?

So, we are not to be better stewards of our environment? We should not limit polution and other behavior which is detrimental? We should not be more efficient, ignoring new technology, but instead rely on 19th century technology? Think about it, we can do better (and my fellow LDS members should be first in line). Argue all you like, but don't make decisions based on what goes on in your locality or at one snapshot in time.

Our ongoing carbon fuel resource depletion and the resulting scarcity and high prices will soon be reducing our carbon emissions more than the cap-and-traders ever dreamed of, regardless of whether anthropomorhic global warming is valid or not.
Our worldwide economically extractable oil, natural gas, and coal supplies are in a lot worse shape than most people think.

This is all a hoax, 95% of all scientists are in on a the big conspiracy to gain political power. They are ALL fudging their research to make Al Gore more money. Here's the liberal saying man is directly related to global warming, just as there are many conservatives on here who say it is not. Only time will tell who is right. However, if I'm right and we do nothing about it, then what? Also, can we stop saying it's cold here in the US, so where is that global warming? Global means the globe, not just your little spot on the Earth. Someone else also brought up the term "religion" and evidence supporting their views. Isn't that the same as believing in God? There's no evidence of God, only what people choose to believe. What's the difference? I actually hope all of you who don't believe in this are right, but please explain to me why we can't work toward cleaning up the Earth and work toward better air quality. Blaine Nay says it's the epitome of arrogance and ignorance to believe that man has the power to affect global climate. I would argue just the opposite. In Norway we had less than a plastic bag's worth of trash each week. Why? Everything is recyclable. Every little bit helps.

Which scientists will you be trusting? The 52 that actually made up the UN IPCC report from political pressure or the 700 dissenting scientists from the US senate minority report?

speak quite frankly.As a scientist I remain skeptical...The main basis of the claim that
mans release of greenhouse gases is the cause of the warming is based almost entirely
upon climate models. We all know the frailty of models concerning the air-surface
system. - Atmospheric Scientist Dr. Joanne Simpson, the first woman in the world to
receive a PhD in meteorology, and formerly of NASA, who has authored more than 190
studies and has been called among the most preeminent scientists of the last 100 years.

I am stunned, dumbfounded, embarassed, and in all other ways completely horrified at all of the comments here but the one gentleman who chides all of you for not caring about the environment. Did you read the article? Do you understand what it says? Bush refused, despite absolutely overwhelming scientific evidence to do anything about it. He was sued and thus finally stopped dragging his feet. He is a Republian of the worst conservative type, yet he still finally admitted that he was wrong. What is it about all of you people? Are none of you educated? Or are you educated and choose to ignore all of science? Was CFC and the whole Montreal Accords also a "tax" on our use of a dangerous, ozone-damaging chemical? Or was that a hoax too and a little bit of cancer never hurt anyone? I challenge a single one of you to find a peer-reviewed scientific paper published in the past 10 years that goes against global warming. Unless one of you can start listing them up here, I don't want to see another backwater comment about global warming not being real.
