Let's hope the district supervisor and new principal clean up some of the other weird things at West, like the dance troupe that uses the school at night. The computer teacher runs it, like the school is her private studio.
Am I reading this wrong? A high school principal who has been investigated for sexual misconduct is resigning and transferring to serve as an elementary school principal?
Shouldn't we be concerned that this person poses a danger to the younger children she will be supervising?
The principal actually tried to remedy the situation with a girl that was coming on to another teacher and the principal assigned this girl to another class in which a new sexual allegation came about. I think the girl should have been expelled from the school until the parents could control her behavior.
What am I missing? The principal was not investigated for sexual misconduct. A teacher was.
Carol - yes you are reading wrong. The principal has been dealing with the issue of teacher/student sexual misconduct. Ms. Parker is not being investigated.
To the first two posters......Certainly the principal can't be blamed for unknown actions fo a teacher.
And to Carol: You are missing that it was not the principal that ran into trouble. It was a teacher.
Good for her! I wouldn't want to hang around the smutty kids at West High either. Elementary will probably be a nice change of pace.
Please go back and read the article again. This time pay attention.
"Smutty Kids at West"? those smutty kids make up the #1 school in Utah. Just because one student is smutty does not condemn a whole school as smutty.
It is a sad day when a principal's stance on sexuality is used against her to force her to transfer to another school.
Doesn't she get paid BIG BUCKS (Often times triple what the average teacher makes) to have her finger on the pulse of what is going on at her particular school.
They really need to start getting rid of poor administrators instead of putting all the pressure on teachers!!
Since when is West High #1? Where are you getting your information? Have you ever BEEN to any other schools? I've been to many at it certainly isn't #1.
Welcome to the official website of West High School, the first high school in the State of Utah. Since 1890, West has been a Salt Lake City School District high school, and is currently the #1 high school in the State of Utah and #158 in the Nation according to Newsweek Magazine.
Principal transfers are usually policy in a district anymore.
West High takes more AP/IB tests per capita and PASSES more than any other school in the state.
Some schools may actually have more students enrolled in AP classes and even in some cases take them, but West scores more 3, 4, and 5s than any school in the state.
And yes, according to Newsweek, the most well-respected high school ranker, West High is number 1.
Oh yeah...state champs baby!
Well ok then. I stand corrected.
I'm just biased because all of my other high schools were more satisfying socially and more challenging academically than any schools I (or my siblings) have attended in the state of Utah. I think I must have gone to high schools that ranked #157 and above in Newsweek. :)
Hello People!?!
Why can't we just congratulate Ms. Parker on the great run she had at West for the last 9 years and wish her well in her new assignment? She has been instrumental in hiring all of the assistant principals and more than 70% of the staff in her tenure and has done a lot of good for the school including 2 accreditation runs and making AYP for NCLB! Thank you for your great service and best of luck to you in the Whittier community!

Teachers have great runs too.
However, I have seen them moved for not breaking up fights and in some instances breaking up fights.
There is a double standard in education.
Administrators take care of their own. Which looks to be the case here.
I like what The Voice | 4:40 p.m. June 16, 2009 said.
Administrators make a mistake move them and continue to pay them their large salaries.
It is not that way for classroom teachers...even the best of em'.
Teacher morale is at all time low and ineffective administrators are part of the reason!!
