juat what we need--ANOTHER show purporting to show what LDS members are REALLY like--and it will end up just like the so-called landmark Frontline/American Experience PBS show "The Mormons". A BIG BLACK EYE for the Church. We're still recovering from the total inability of its writers, makers and producers to know what "REAL MORMONISM" is. They wouldn't understand real mormonism if it walked right up and rang their doorbell.
And even if they did, do you think that version would SELL to PBS or HBO or anybody else????? Dream on.
"The show, "This Is the Place," will center on ...the challenges they face in meeting the demands of their faith, families, workplaces and communities."
Every single show or entertainment-centered depiction of the LDS is always the same - they focus on the "challenges" that exist in being a Mormon. Not on the conviction we have in our beliefs, not on our healthier-than-average families, not on the things we do for and in our communities - just on our "challenges." In other words, they perpetuate the Hedonist views much of society holds today, that it is not worth it to sacrifice any momentary pleasure in order to find lasting happiness. I'm personally a little tired of always being depicted as "challenged."
I really agree with Anonymous 9:37 a.m. I hope that these series will focus in the joy of being Mormon. I'm a convert of 33 years and I'm yet to find ANYTHING that would separate me from the Church or the lifestyle it promotes. I'm married to another converts and we both together have had challenges but, the blessings and happiness that come from being Mormons are unsurpassed. Hopefully the producers will take these very important issues into consideration.
Perhaps Headquarters in Temple Square should remind these so called Creators of a new faith-based television drama plan to begin filming in Heber City in late summer, and market the show worldwide to members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, that Member's don't watch TV, they are to just re-read the book of mormon over and over again and again, so POOF will go their ratings because of it. One can't read and watch TV at the same time.
Why don't we just live and let live? If everyone lived their life, their religion, their commitments, etc no one would need to tune into another tv show about whoever. If you are a good neighbor, it shows, if you have struggles, people already know, if you are skunk that shows too. This won't be reality, TV cameras do a funny thing to people, suddenly they change into something they are not, actors- because they know someone is watching. This is a stupid idea and it needs to be reconsidered.
I thought Fox might be doing a special to get the Christian views by relieving American cults. "Cult" isn't from my lexicon but the lexicon of American conservative evangelical Christians.
Catholics also consider Momonism a "non-christian "religion. I look it up on the official Catholic websit, though my parrish rarely talks about Mormons.
No, please, No! We already had Full House and Big Love... we can't stomache anymore of this Puritanist cult nonsense!
It's ok guys......if it's anything like what I do each day, they're bound to get bored watching and the series will end in a short period of time. I'm not saying my life is totally boring, just not a soap opera. And I consider myself a typical Latter-Day-Saint, or for all you anti's "Mormon".
