I am in awe of these gentlemen for what they are doing and I wish them the very best. Raising awareness in the community is often challenging when people don't understand the necessity for organ donations. The people on the waiting list realize that only about one out of three of them will receive a liver transplant; until they were listed, most of them never had a clue. I know because I was one of them.

Yes Utah

This article helped raise my awareness of the numbers out there waiting for transplants.

I am already signed on as a donor -- an easy thing to add to your driver's license. Just Google the Utah Donor Registry.

The bike ride sounds like a great idea. You go guys!

WOW. What an awesome guy.

Thanks Dr. Box and thank you Deseret News for bringing us his story.

I too owe my life to a very generous donor family, as well as Dr. Box and the transplant team that preformed my liver transplant 2 1/2 years ago. What an inspiration this team is to those of us who are alive because of their expertise.

My mom was one of those patients that died waiting. Unfortunately, she never made it on the list. She went from "not sick enough" to "too sick" practically overnight. I hope and pray that other families can have better outcomes.

I raced bikes at BYU in the sixties, then received a kidney transplant at the U in 1978. In 2000 I rode solo coast to coast to raise awareness and money. Altho I raised $10,000, more publicity would have been good. Glad to see these guys have both the stamina and the publicity!

Very much appreciate donor families. I received a liver transplant 11 years ago. Dr. Box and Thomason both were my doctors.
