Lets trade Boozer to the Cavs for Labron...
Are we working out any non-white players?
fast and agile. In the combine measurements of the top 6 PF or SF/PF he is 2nd to Johnson in the sprint (diff .01) and second to Griffin in agility (diff .18). However his vert and standing vert are average. Hill may be slightly better and have more potential (fr)but Hill is slow and not agile, however he can leap.
Hansbrough averaged 21 points, 8 rebounds with .4 blocks per game. Griffin was 23/14/1.1 and Hill was 18/11/1.7. All against good competition (ACC,Big 12 and Pac 10).
Hansbrough should be able to stay in front of a defender. He may be average for PFs on rebounding but he can shoot.
He can probably play a limited role for most teams this year.
and Pendergraph, and Gibson are projected as second round in most drafts. Lawal was a very good PF prospect but he announced he is going back to GT.
Pendergraph may be okay. He is much faster than Hansbrough in the sprint by .13 seconds but like Hill not agile (3rd worst in the combine). He can jump.
Why does the name Curtis Bortcher come to mind when I read this article.
is gone, there needs to be a change in the game plan. Millsap lacks outside shooting. The offense needs to be opened up from the outside.
Okur, Korver, sometimes CJ and DWill are the 3 point shooters. Whoever guards Brewer (ditto Knight) backs off and guards the paint.
The Jazz need a combo or 2G who can defend and shoot to open up the paint. Korver and CJ are erratic, Okur can't rebound shooting outside.
The Jazz need to replace some Boozers points from another position. Brewer's style is ideal for some teams, for others the Jazz need a shot maker.
A 6'5" combo guard who could defend and shoot from the outside would provide a back up PG and solve the Brewer/spread the floor problem.
Koufos may be better than Hansbrough at back up PF in the long run. Hansbrough will have trouble with LA's tall line up just like Boozer. He is a weak rebounder.
It is time the Jazz stopped thinking about how to make the playoffs and designed a team that can beat LA and SA.
Harp will be gone. AK will play some PF. Get quality not a project.
Just no softies please and some one who is athletic and can play some D would be nice!! A back up point guard....Lawson or teague would be good or a small forward/2 guard. I doubt we need anymore projects. We have Koufos and Fess who need time to develop.
Yeah, Vernal Roid, not just Curtis Borchardt, but also the Jazz have a great history of signing white, worthless centers... Greg Foster, Greg Ostertag, Todd Fuller, Borchardt, John Amaechi, Paul Grant.. (and one not white, worthless center, Olden Polynice). So, surprise surprise, we give another future worthless cneter an extension.. Boo on you KOC!
really important. It implies that Collins is gone.
That means Koufos is the back up C (also play some PF) instead of Collins. Koufos is already an average player. He may be as good as Gasol in 4 more years. He will be much better than he is now. He had an outside shot in college. He needs a couple of years of playing time to learn moves, the system and develop.
Koufos was doing great until Sloan benched him in favor of Collins. That sent a message that it did not matter how good he was or how hard he worked. Collins who was inferior started since he was a vet.
Well now Koufos has his turn and Collins should be gone. Fez is a specialist who will see spot action.
Assuming that Boozer and Harp are gone the Jazz need to fix their biggest weaknesses. A PF who can shoot and play defense NOW. A back up PG and or SG who can shoot and play defense.
If Koufos (C)and Hansbrough (PF) play together that might work as Koufos can rebound (also Fez) and Hansbrough can defend and shoot.
I like a PG/SG better.
Does it even matter who we draft? they dont play until after their rookie season! hans is not a good pick up! i want to pick up a black man for many reasons!
make any difference. I just want a quality player who can contribute quickly and not some long shot project who takes up time and money. The Jazz have to think and act more like POR if they are going to go anywhere.
The problem is Sloan's system and his Vet bias. Vets are expensive and the Jazz have limited funds.
Even after it is appearent that projects are not more than role players they still get paid extra because they are now vets and know the Sloan system. It is extra hard to get rid of them and thier bad contracts.
That makes it hard to get good young talent and make the team better.
The Jazz organizational preference for continuity causes mediocrity and makes it almost intractable.
Miller's managers at the dealerships would not hesitate to can a poor performing saleperson. Why do they hang onto average (or less) players?
Sloan and his system. If Sloan could add defense and make adjustments then his system might work as well as LA's triangle. However, Sloan only gives lipservice to defense. DEN's defence improved when the coaches made it improve.
Talk is cheap.
Denvers defense improved when Billups showed up and knew how to lead a team and get them to play D. Yes the coaches had some say but it really was once AI left and Billups took control that they changed and became a good team instead of a high scoring team. Billups was the key.
I am disappointed they did not invite the Huskies Jonathan Brockman. Taylor is a great great shooter, fair defensively but no overly tall. then again you already have a shooter on the Flash Kevin Kreuger. I followed Taj at Usc but too short, similarities to Millsap, but basically low post player, good on boards and d but too small and no jumper.
A sleeper is Pendegraph. About 6'10 good defense. Board, has a little jumper, gets position down low can block shots. Could be power forward. Think has chance to stick. Jordan Hill from UOA another good thought... I want comments to these guys. I do not want Tyler....
Does Utah still have the Jazz? Who care's. Another 7,8,9 or tenth finish...woohoo
What they should do is ship Okur, the first round pick and Fez to Toronto for Bosh. Then they should get a defensive 3 and unload some of the other guys via trade. The biggest problem with all this though is AK's huge contract that no one wants because he can't live up to it. Once his contract is gone then some things can really open up. I wonder what it would take to get Prince from Detroit. The Jazz in my opinion would be better off shopping around and getting rid of this pick and trying to get a guy who has been around for a few years that is a definsive guy at that can can play the 2-3. Just my thoughts though. I would be suprised if they did actually go after Bosh. I would love it but don't really expect it though.
Yes I am aware that Billups made a big difference in DENs defense but it came from the head coach and got reinforced (or enforced) by Billups.
Hill is projected to go in the top 10. The Jazz would have to move up. Pendergast can be traded down for unless his stock moves up. Heytvelt is another possible sleeper.
However, I would prefer the Jazz get out of the sleeper business and go up and get Hill or a great PG, SG or PG/SG. Many teams want to save cash and will sell thier picks and/or trade down with the Jazz for cheap this year. In fact I wish the Jazz would trade up on both picks and get exactly what they need and not mess around with any more long shot projects. They may get lucky once in a while with a Millsap but the odds are against them.
Forget Bosh Utah can't trade for him and he won't come here. Utah needs to follow PORs strategy on drafting and developing young players and needs to get an innovative offensive/defensive coach like Adelman.
That is how to turn this program around.
that the Jazz display appears to come from Larry Miller's personality. The need to take a cheap long shot (potential) and beat the odds and turn it into a winner. It also seems to come from Sloan's personality which favors hard work over talent.
This is an inefficient tendency. The tendency to bet on long shots is a bad (loser) strategy as the odds are not with you.
Hopefullly Greg is smart enough to reverse this bad management approach. Go with the odds. Move up in the draft and get talent combined with the right personality. If a player has both talent and work ethic/killer instinct then the odds of winning go up.
The Jazz have a whole team full of players with major deficiencies. Boozer is fragil and disappears against tall athletic and hard nosed defenders. He is a finess PF (oxymoron). Okur is a soft slow C who's best shot is outside. Brewer can't shoot but is a SG. AK wants to be a PF and also can't shoot from the outside. Knight can't shoot.
This team is designed to be weak in outside shooting and poor on defense.
Make Changes.
Ty Lawson look like Gs the Jazz should take a serious look at. The Jazz would have to move up to get Curry. There is a reasonable possibility that Lawson will be available at 20.
predicted to be LESS than average NBA players (after 5 years) based on their college position adjusted win scores for there last year of play. This predictor is fairly accurate of NBA success. Holiday, Flynn, Derozan, Hill, Henderson, Daye, Clark, Mullens, Teague, and Young.
Based on college win scores the follow players are the best (safest) picks in order: Griffin, Lawson, Cummard, Thabeet, and Hansbrough.
Foreign players and non-college players were not ranked.
Lawson and Hansbrough may be available in the 1st round and Cummard should be available in the 2nd when the Jazz choose.
Further, Utah is lacking a player with a position adjusted win score above .30. No team has ever won a championship without at least one player with a position adjusted win score above .30.
Utah has some serious adjustments to make in talent before they will every win a championship.
