The Jazz "hope" he will fall to them at #20? This is the problem with the organization. Of course Hansbrough will fall to #20 because I doubt any other teams will be stupid enough to waste a first round pick on a player who is either too small, slow or unathletic to play in the NBA.

Hansbough worth a look

I've thought all along that he was not a good pick at number 20 but he has impressed everyone in skills tests. He's not exactly NBA prototype not being big enough at power forward - he may be a back up or great role player. He could contribute next year so he's worth a look. I personally like an undersized DeJuan Blair even though he's 6'-6" but point guards are going to be the best value in this draft.

Stock fan!

I will admit I don't watch College basketball too often, infact the only team I really care about is Gonzaga, and yes that is because of #12 lol but I thought Hansbrough was really good, I certainly heard a lot about him, with the very little college basketball I tuned into and it seemed like everytime something about college basketball was on espn or any other sports channel it was about him, why is this if he isn't very good? Is it just because he played for North carolina? I am very curious! Go Jazz, I will always be a fan:)

What's up

I don't get it? I am not big on Hansbrough, but if you like Matt Harpring's game you got to like Hansbrough and he would be a good pick up at 20. Hopefully, however there will be someone still on the board that could help more.

Another undersized power forward was Milsap, and he's worked out pretty well.
I'm glad I'm not GM because the draft is just a "crap-shoot", even though it can make you look pretty smart or pretty dumb.
Is there a test for checking the size of a guys heart? That might be the best test out there.

Observation-ist

Will someone write an article about toughness and defense. With Boozer, Memo, Korver, and Deron, we don't need more offense. We need toughness! and defense!

All the 'skills' in the world won't help if he's soft. Can the DMN find a writer that will ask Tyler how 'tough' he thinks he is? Can the Jazz devise a workout that lets players display their toughness?

Frankly, I liked the reference to Douglas as being 'a defensive-minded combo guard'. I'll take a tough-minded, defense-first guard over a skilled, soft big! The question for Douglas is quickness. Slow and defensive-minded still doesn't help. I hope Douglas turns out to be quick, defensive-minded, with a strong work ethic. One can hope!!!

Take a look..

at two of the players playing in the finals. JJ Reddick and Adam Morrison dominated college basketball media. They're both struggling to find playing time. (though Reddick seems to be playing alright for the Magic in the Finals)

The Jazz need

a good back up PG. One who was taller and could also shoot and play defense would be very good.

Knight can run an offense but can't shoot. Price is not a PG and his shooting is erratic.

It is time to find a replacement for DWill if he decides to leave in a couple of years.

The Jazz have defensive C project in Fez, they have a decent back up C/PF in Koufos (developing into more later). They have a collage at PF but I am assuming that Harp will be gone (salary or other issues). If Boozer leaves Koufos will have to produce offensively at PF (not his natural position) or the Jazz need a back up PF who is at least as good as Millsap.

I think they go PG, combo G, or PF. Depending on Boozer they will probably go PF or try to trade for one.

Hollywood

It's already been said by many GM;s that this year's draft doesn't have a lot of players that will become starters in the NBA.

At #20, I think Utah is hoping to get a guy that will become a good backup. PF or PG seems a likely target. If Boozer leaves, we'll need a "Millsap" to replace Paul on the 2nd unti.

Jazz will likely make an offer to Price, but will he return under Sloan? Jerry completely screwed him over by playing Knight, even when Brevin was slumping. The Jazz always carry 3 PG's and this draft is pretty deep in that position.

todd from santa ana

how about someone that can be soon an "impact starter" not some flimsy backup in Jers regimented system. Of course to disappoint his "sloanaholics" #20 Hansborough? Why? Why? Why" what about combo-guard who can handle the rock take some heat off Dwil or Big forward that can play d, score in block and board and get a block---

Recognize!

LOL, good lord, if you guys are wondering if Hansbrough is tough enough or has enough heart, then you obviously haven't paid a lick of attention to the college game the past 4 years. The guy epitomizes toughness, heart, work ethic, dedication, fierce competitiveness...basically all the qualities lacking in a lot of NBA players these days. The Jazz would be foolish not to take him at 20 if he's available. Sloan would love this guy, as would Jazz fans. And to those who question his size and athleticism, he compared VERY favorably to Blake Griffin during combine measurements and skills tests. Hansbrough is a winner, a national champion, easily one of the all-time greatest players in Carolina history, one of the most accomplished players in college basketball history, I don't need to go into the success of Carolina players in the NBA because reputation and long list of players/superstars in the league speaks for itself. In a weak draft with plenty of unproven and questionable picks available, Hansbrough is a slam dunk - he may never be an all-star but he'll definitely have a long and productive NBA career.

Dallas Aggie

I hope that Wilkinson gets a shot somewhere in the NBA. He did a great job for USU and we wish him the best!

If we're looking at a UNC player

It should be Ty Lawson. Now there is a guy I think could make it in the league. And don't compare undersized Millsap, who is an athlete, to undersized, unathletic Hansbrough. No other team in the league has him going before the second round. But Utah does because if there is another thing we need it's an unathletic post player. But he's white, so I guess that's awesome.

The best comment on the board was comparing him to Redick and Morrison. The media love players in college like this (in football see Tim Tebow) with a good family and image. But "heart" doesn't translate to the pros unless you have the skills and athleticism to back it up.

Re: Recognize!,
Thank you. Your post was easily the best thus far. I am a UNC hater, but at least I can recognize that Psycho T is tough. That's his biggest asset. Why do you think he keeps being compared to Harpring.

Although a lot of the Mock's have him falling to #20, I just don't see it happening. This draft is so guard-heavy that teams looking for bigs will have little to choose from. I mean, are there 5 bigs in the draft better than Tyler Hansbrough? I'd take Thabeet, Griffin, and Blair before Hansbrough, but that's about it.

This draft is great if you're looking to pick up a backup point guard. The Jazz will most likely be able to pick up Lawson or Maynor. If there were a limited number of point guards in this draft each of those guys would be lottery picks.

If Hansbrough is not available, I'd love to see them grab either Maynor or Lawson and then pray Luke Harengody drops to them in the second round. Harengody will be the steel of the draft.

Re: If we're looking at a UNC...

Why on earth would you compare Tyler Hansbrough to Adam Morrison and Redick? Is it because he's white? That's the only real similarity that I see.

Hansbrough is not a shooting specialist, Redick and Morrison were. Hansbrough is tough, Redick and Morrison were not. The only similarity that they have is that they were stars in college basketball and they are all white. That's it. Period.

Also, have you seen his combine stats? He's way more athletic than you think. He's extremely strong, and has a very good vertical.

If you're going to compare Hansbrough to someone, try Mark Madsen. He's been in the league for 10 years now and has been an effective role player. He's tough. He gets under people's skin. The only problem with Madsen... he cannot shoot. Look at Hansbrough. He's tough. He can get under people's skin. The only difference is that he has a nice 15 foot to 18 foot jumper. In a draft that is filled with crap shoots, it would be wise to take the
guy who will be an excellent role player for a decade or more.

CL

I think alot of you will be surprised by Hansbrough. He is a scrappy, tough, hustle type player that can shoot better than Milsap. He measured out better than people thought he would 6'9+ and has performed well in the workouts he has been in. I would love to see us get him. Usually I want a top notch athlete but in Hansbroughs case I think he would be a player that could help immediately. He has proven to be affective and although the competition is different he has the skills to produce. They said the same thing about Milsap.
If he is gone I hope we pick up the kid from Georgia Tech, 6'9" long and more athletic but more raw. Better shot blocker, rebounder but raw offensively.
Young from Pitt would be OK and we do need a back up point. I think Price will do fine if given the reigns as DWill's back up, but they always have 3 point guards so a combo guard in the draft would be OK.

Hans

I'd rather have an average NBA skill set (Tyler) who plays with passion than someone with above average skills (Boozer) who plays below his potential.

gdog3

Hansbrough's game will always reside in college glory. He is undersized as a power forward and not skilled enough to play small forward. If Boozer leaves it might make sense to some to have Hansbrough come in and back up Millsap (if Millsap stays and Hansbrough gets drafted by the Jazz). The problem here is that the Jazz would have all undersized power forwards with no shot blocking center. Hansbrough and Millsap would give you effort and heart but defense is more than that despite what some people will tell you. Millsap can bust a nut all he wants to until some bigger forward posts him low and shoots a 5 foot jump hook over him time after time. Kosta Koufos needs more time and the Jazz just kept Fesenko. I don't get it. They kept him and Jerry won't play him. I believe the jazz like Koufos more but what gives. Are the Jazz looking for a way to have Memo bolt.

@Re: If we're looking

Try to learn to read. I compared him to Redick and Morrison because the college media think he's the greatest thing ever when wasn't even the best player on his team this season.

But I guess your right. Skill set wise he's like Madsen (except not as good an athlete). Great. Let's spend a first round pick on a guy who's going to play 11 minutes a game, while averaging 2 points and 2.5 rebounds over his NBA career. Yeah. That's worth a first round pick.

Don't worry Jazz fans

He'll be there at #20. No one else would waste a first round pick on him. ESPN only has him going at 20 because that is the Jazz pick and he fits in with what O'Connor wants in a player: lily white with a nice family. And he's a good guy!
