I look foward to Dave Hansen and Morgan Philpot winning. (I know, there are how many combinations you can get)?
But it isn't like the South really joins the Mormons. The so-called party "base" among Evangelicals is unlikely to ever join with the Mormons and that is why Mitt Romney faces such a difficult battle to ever get the party's presidential nomination. The Evangelicals are happy enough that Mormons support them, but turnabout isn't within their narrow point of view. They are more concerned with what they see as doctrinal purity. It's a sad state of affairs for what used to be the Moral Majority.
Morgan Philpot is THE best choice in this race!!! Looking forward to him winning tomorrow.
Being the GOP boss in Utah has to be the easiest job in the world. You just have to remember the one phrase that works everytime: "Come on sheep, vote like I tell you."
I think my 88 year old grandpa could lead this party. He sleeps a lot and is hard of hearing. He also believes everything he reads and hears. He loved Mitt, but I think he voted for Obama when he got into the secret booth.
Can he run too? He would be perfect for the gop.
Stan Lockhart is mentioned as a lobbyist, but Morgan Philpot is mentioned as a "conservative former legislator."
In fact, Morgan is a lobbyist for Reagan Outdoors, the billboard company.
If being a lobbyist is relevant for Lockhart, it is equally relevant for Philpot.
Clair,
Everyone has a potential conflict of interest.
Morgan is about as honest as you will find.
Todd works as an attorney covering things that could be a conflict as party vc, but to the best of my knowledge, he has been above board.
Morgan filed because he is general council for Reagan. He is not their lobbyist, but is up on the hill during session for work.
Vote for the one you think will go the direction we should go. I am voting for Morgan, but also know and like Todd.
A Dave Hansen/ Morgan Philpot ticket would be a good thing for the party
The choices for chair are thin, but the real work will be done by the VC anyway. Philpot is a proven conservative workhorse who knows how to win elections in tough districts.
A lobbyist raises concerns. A lobbyist who tried to hide the fact for the last 4 months while campaigning and who will not answer the question of how he will deal with the ethical challenges and doesn't even admit there are challenges shows a lack of ethics.
Who cares who leads the Shill Party? They're all in it for their wallets anyway, which is the symbol of the GOP -- the Grand Old Pecuniary. Reagan Signage makes Utah ugly, but as long as Mr. Philpot gets paid, who cares? Take a drive through Vermont someday and see what a beautiful place can be like without Reagan Signage.
One of the hottest issues at last year's convention was the treasurer's race. I would love to hear an accounting from Shurleff, Valentine, Hughes, etc.: what were you thinking!?!
Being leader of the GOP in Utah is like being the leader of the KGB in Moscow during the Soviet Era. They even have a private tunnel from their HQ connecting them with their very own "Kremlin" across the street.
Morgan has never hid anything. He is honest. Someone that is supporting Todd is trying to smear Morgan, and Todd is not supporting the smear campaign and is defending Morgan. Good for both.
We have 3 or 4 names behind the smear campaign.
Lets worry about the candidates.
. . . I really hope . . . that whomever is chosen is a centrist instead of one of the far-right fringe nuts that hijacked the party a few years ago. Somehow, though, I think my hopes will be in vain. I've seen no indication that the party wants to get back to rationality and reasonability.
ENID! ENID! ENID!
Come on, GOP, PLEASE pick ENID!!!!!
Yeah, the GOP needs another crying episode.
I hope that whoever is chosen is "good, wise and honest", will seek limited constitutional government, and be opposed to any gifts from any lobbyist.
to lead the party back to basic GOP principles.
My comment was about the uneven labeling of the two lobbyists in Bernick's article, not about the honesty of any candidate.
Aside from the article, it is ironic to watch some party members who have slung "lobbyist" labels at other party officers for years now rally around a lobbyist.
That isn't Morgan's fault at all. It's just politics making strange bedfellows.
Chairman of the GOP in Utah is the easiest job in the world. Boo-hoo. Kind of like being the chairman of United Russia.
