Yet another escaped of illegal and improper developement in areas of known flood planes in the valley. Lets give a big cheer to the city leaders for putting home owners in harms way and in financial ruin. Now that the land is saturated the mud slides can do their thing and do more damage to homes that should not be where they are built. Thank you city leaders.
If you don't believe me just look and the USGS geological maps that are zoned and no build zones for residential housing. Much of the west side of the valley is designated for farm use only, yet thousands of homes have been erected against USGS recommendations. The USGS maps also list earthquake ratings, flood ratings, landslides ratings, and much more. The insurance industry adheres to these maps very closely and adjust insurance rates and exclusions accordingly. City engineers are aware of these maps but were eager to act criminally and put people and their families in harms way.

There are three creeks that run from the western mountains to the Jordan River, two of them have been completely obliterated through farming and residential development, especially in Riverton and Herriman. Rose Creek and Butterfield Creeks no longer make it to the Jordan. Only Midas Creek has a clear path all the way through. So it's no wonder that you will have flooding in these areas, the water has to go somewhere, and just because it doesn't rain that much doesn't mean that at times when there is rain you wont have flooding.
Herriman city/SL County will have mounting $$ concerns because of this. They both should be sued to fix the problems they allowed to happen.
"husband's tools floated in the water." What kind of tools is your husband using? Fisher Price tools should not be too hard to replace. The other things however, are very sad to lose.
