Nick Freita of Southern Utah is one of the best talents that the State of Utah has ever seen in baseball. He is a tremendous athlete and will be a great professional baseball player. I see in playing in the majors after 2 years in the minors!
I have scouted many players and he is one of the best from utah this year

dude

You haven't watched much baseball because he (Freitas not Freita) miss reads alot of balls hit to him. He is fast and thats about it. I have watched him for threee years now. I have never been very impressed

Smoking something?

I, too, have watched Nick Freitas for the past few years. He is a good college player. He has great speed. He has good hands and agility. But he also is an extremely streaky hitter. His slumps are monumental. And the thing is, in the Summit League and on SUU's schedule, he hasn't come close to seeing the kind of pitching that he'll see at AAA, let alone the majors.

Even with the kind of pitching he faces on a regular basis in SUU's Division I *cough, cough* program, Freitas cannot hit a big-league curve, let alone an exploding slider or a splitty that falls off the end of the table. That's not to say he never will; but he can't right now, and it's going to take several years' development before he's to that point, if he ever gets there at all.

Bottom line: If Nick Freitas is two years from the majors, then I'll be teamming with Kobe and lead the Lakers to the NBA title next week. And I guarantee you, there ain't no chance of that.

Cottonwood

WAIT A SECOND....

Go back and read some post on HS baseball articles. They have a gun at Cottonweed where they have starters in the low to mid 90s and even the Sophs have kids hitting mid 80s.

But now this kid has been only seeing 84 in the minors and it was his first time seeing 94. Judge must not have played cottonwood when he was in HS.

Matt

Well Dude, I don't know how much baseball you have seen. The truth is that Nick Freitas has the potential for all 5 tools. He stole over 30 bases last year, has 30 homeruns in the last 2 seasons (hitting them all over), throws 90+ from the outfield, and actually does track down a ton of balls in the outfield. I played with him for 2 years and he is the best non-pitching pro prospect I have ever played with. This list includes players like Parker, Billy Burgess, Cluff, Shimada, Law just to name a few. The truth is, scouts love potential and he's got it.

?????

What about Chism and Curtis? 2007 T-ville grads. Both just finished 2nd year at CSI. Chism 2009 SWAC MVP. Did you forget about them Andrew?

Cottonwood is 4a judge is 3a

What about?

Nick Carter - I have been reading about him in a lot of the other blogs. It sounds like he is a player that is a can't miss big leaguer. I know he didn't get picked to be in the 1st team allstate team but it sounds like he has all the tools to be a great major leaguer.

What about?

What about all these High School kids that were supposed to be throwing in the mid to low 90s all year? For some reason I dont see many names on this list,Hurry someone call the major league scouts and tell them what they have missed.Cottonwood had 5 or 6 kids that threw mid 90s,didnt Bingham have a couple also?Oh well I guess reality has started to set in.

re: what about

Cottonwood had legit kids that throw in the 90s (Adams being one of them). Bingham on the other hand didn't. Just a number of pitchers that were overhyped - I went to their state game with Timp and wasn't impressed by the pitcher in that game and I heard that he was their number 1 starter. Hate to see their 2, 3 and 4 guy. I heard their best pitcher was a junior left hander that never got a chance. Too bad.

dont forget

The Juggs gun measures the velocity out of the hand,When someone is a legitamate 90 plus guy watch for the big black gun that measures velocity at the catchers glove.Take off 5mph at least from the juggs reading and you are in the ballpark.By the way not too many legit 90 plus guys around these parts right now.

re: what about

what a joke...Nick carter.....didn't even get a college offer...Just "interest". Nice try Nick

No Way did I read Law

How did Andrew Law get a shout out. I'd like to know the team scouting him. Putting Law in this article is like saying Adam Keefe is in the same class as Shaq and Kareem

CWOOD

Coach Hooper knows how hard his guys throw. And it doesn't matter. It is all about location.

Saw many many games

The best prospect from UVU is the Anderson kid that prepped at Bingham. According to his coach, he is the fastest person on the team, running a 6.4 sixty. He also has a pro style body, 6'2" - 200lbs. His problem was slumps. He had two long ones this year. But when he was on....it was a thing of beauty. Probably a long shot, but if it was my bet and money, I'd take him.

That gun

at Cwood needs to be recalibrated. It clearly is reading several mph high !!

You ought to check out the Yack kid from Bingham!!!!
He is pro material for sure!!!!!!

re. anonymous

since bingham went 3 and out...i guess that makes all of west jordan kids pro material. they went 6 games in playoffs!....lol

Yeah

Just look at his stats for the Gates game. But they were different for All State...Go figure.

Head to Head

Since head to head, Bingham was 2-1 against West Jordan, I think the argument is over. The only game you got was when it was a huge downpour and your coach seemed to loose the field dry until it was needed by your hitters and pitcher. WJ is a bunch of head cases.
