Trim the Council Budget | 7:49 p.m. June 3, 2009
Why does the city council need so much staff? Cut either the budget director or the council executive director. $200,000 for these 2 positions could be better used other places!
IS it Legal to mix energy money | 7:51 p.m. June 3, 2009
Is it even legal to mix the money from the energy (Provo City Power) to the general budget fund???
I thought utilities had to keep separate money and budgets!
Power rate increase? | 7:53 p.m. June 3, 2009
How can Provo City increase power rates to balance the budget? Why should Provo use power rates in the general budget? Don't they have the same tax base as other cities in the state for the general budget?

They also rename bonds to "Funding" like they have endless credit. I saw it in the council meeting when they told the budget guy to do so...

Fishy how much they spend for overhead then take from the general fund or what they call the "Enterprise fund"

it is an election year for the Mayor and 3 of the council members.

Layoffs will happen next year or November. Then with parking permits costing BYU students more money they don't have.
Don't | 11:54 a.m. June 4, 2009
Don't cut the new Council Budget Director. After twelve years of millions of dollars of wasteful spending this is the only way the Council can have over-sight of a Mayor who spends millions on pet projects that benefit the few - his friends and family!
Employees Backs | 11:57 a.m. June 4, 2009
Once again Billings is balancing the budget on the employees backs. If not, where else is it getting balanced from? No merit, no COLA, no reclassifications, no bonus, and they have to pay more for their health benefits. Who else's back are you balancing it on Mayor?

We wouldn't mind if you weren't spending millions of dollars that were NOT budgeted moving the golf course for a development that isn't even coming, hasn't given any money to the city and may never come. That ALONE would cover all short falls and more. Enough pet projects Mayor. It is time for you to go! We can't stand four more years after 12 long years of command and demand devoid of leadership and management.
When? | 7:55 a.m. June 5, 2009
Citizens of Provo, when is it time to finally rid a community of a Mayor that has wasted millions of dollars on frivolous projects? Four years wasn't enough? Eight years wasn't enough? Is twelve years finally enough? Imagine, if 60 million had not been wasted on iProvo. Imagine if 35,000 hadn't been wasted putting red, white and blue lights on top of a smokestack all for a photo op. Imagine if 30,000 hadn't been spent on a huge flag pole in East Bay. Imagine if hundreds of thousands hadn't been spent at the airport on a parking lot only five cars were parked in on Wednesday. Imagine if millions weren't being spent moving a golf course for a stalled development. Imagine if a hundred thousand hadn't been spent for a horse trail head only a few use. Imagine if over two hundred thousand hadn't been spent on one block on 100 South. Imagine if a couple million hadn't been wasted on one company - Action Target. Imagine all of these pet projects, where Provo is financially now, and where it could be. I say twelve years is enough!
Where's Waldo | 8:01 a.m. June 8, 2009
Why is that the Provo Council has taken a page right out of a Where's Waldo book and have provided no insight for twelve years over this administration? You talk about lap dogs! If you aren't going to do your jobs and hold this administration in check at least run away from your problems like Steward did and maybe we can get a Council that will actually not just provide oversight but actually look into the actions of this administration.
More of the same | 3:35 p.m. June 9, 2009
Following the Mayor's lead it looks like the Council agrees it is okay to balance the budget on the backs of the employees and continue with pet projects.
