It seems to me a QB out of Idaho who went to Provo for some kind of get together with other players, left early because he was going to commet with Standford. What happened with him? Is Stanford that good of a program? Just wondering.

Glad for him, but sad that he won't be a Cougar. Good luck if that's what he really wants to do. But the more I see the top talent leave the state, the more I see them not playing or having a chance to play outside, except for a couple of exceptions.

congrats

Congrats to him for making a smart decision. I am a die hard utah fan and would love nothing more than to play at that school, but if stanford knocks on your door you go there without think. Playing at the highest level of college football and a top level education that will set him up for life is the easy choice. Go to the U or Y for more wins, but stanford for a better life after football.

Sj Bobkins

This kid is going to be a victim of impossible to fulfill promises. With SoCals Nunes and Idaho's Highland High product Tayson Hill both LDS kids signed in 2009, Stanford with these three freshman both incoming and redshirt (plus others) can offer this kid a 33% chance of starting a game. Of these kids 1 will leave, 1 may play, and 1 will blow his career by sitting on the pine for 4 years, The program struggling for a 3 coaches in 4 years, can they improve in the win column and be competitive? Dallas unwisely is now a part of a log jam. If Stanford doesn't sign any more QB's this year (2010), and none in 2011 or 2012, then the best case scenario 33% holds. Just as we have seen with a number of Utah kids who headed to UCLA, Cal, ASU, and USC they stay and maybe play/sit for a year or two then vavoom their gone. Lloyd will waste his time on the bench, when he could have followed Max Hall at BYU.

Ute in Philadelphia

I remember when Harbaugh played under Mike Ditka with the Bears back in the early 90s. He was a great QB. Beating USC 2 yrs ago shows he can both play and coach. Too bad he won't be a Ute. Smart QBs are real winners. I can understand why someone may choose to pass up a better football program for a chance to play at Stanford, or even in the FCS Ivy League.

Oh well. Go Utes!!!

Boards for Hands

His dad was also a great athlete, leader, and QB in High School. He and Dallas' mom are also highly intelligent and well grounded. My guess is that this has as much to do with the education Dallas will have for the rest of his life vs. whether the neighborhood is upset that he's not a Cougar. Sounds like the "chip off the old block" that I'd expect having known his gene pool for 28 years.

You go to Stanford

If you get the chance to go to Stanford, you go. I hate it, but the football is nationally condered to be at a higher level, simply because it is in a BCS conference. It sucks, but it's true.

The school is at a higher level academically as well. BYU is a good school, Utah is a good school; any kid, LDS or not, should go to Stanford if they have the chance. There will be exceptions where an LDS kid needs to be where there are more LDS students and an institute to get or keep his head on straight. But for the most part, a kid would be stupid not to go to Stanford if given the opportunity.

Utes

This kid saw the writing on the wall, just like Riley Neilson did a few years ago. Utah is set at QB right now, with the Wynn kid likely to redshirt this year, then the Robles kid back from a mission next year. He would not have been given the opportunity to play the QB position at the U unless something unforseen happened.

Good luck to him.

mhe

Wow! What experts! I'm impressed.

Its about education

Great choice - I've been there the school lacks nothing including great athletic opportunities. Winner of the Sears cup (highest athletic accomplishment of any university) last 12 years running.

Stanford

hmm. Stanford.....A place where small ideas become multi million dollar companies. Google is one I can think.

Pro Athletes, not USC caliber but incredible mediocre tradition football wise. Its easy with Washington and Washington State having horrible programs lately that Stanford will go to some bowl games with Harbaugh at the helm. Remember his brother is a head coach in the NFL. I'd take that over BYU and Utah and Im a Utah graduate.

If one of

my kids had a chance to go to Stanford for any reason I would want them to jump on the opportunity. Kids with perfect grades are denied entrance to this school. Life is about more than football.

Pleasantly Surprised

I had expected to come to this forum and read comments and rants about how "byu is the Harvard of the west" and "this kid is passing up the greatest education in the world", blah, blah, blah.
The reality is that all the universities in Utah are very good, but not great. Stanford really is the Harvard of the west (no, I am not a Stanford graduate, just being objective and realistic). I never thought I would say this, but it appears that the byu fans are being rationale.

Stanford, meh.

Stanford would be a great education. Really though, BYU and Utah offer a pretty good education as well. If your end goal is education and not football, you would be just as well off going to BYU or Utah getting great grades and then moving on to a Stanford for graduate school. We have seen other LDS players commit to programs only to be left with an empty bag of promises when they return from a mission. I hope for his sake he isn't left with an empty bag in two years.

Stanford is to the PAC 10 what Wyoming and San Diego St are to the MWC

BYU Already Loaded

If this kid had chosen BYU he would have just added to a future logjam. Assuming (and hoping, praying and fasting) that Jake Heaps signs with BYU (he reportedly will not go on a mission) there will be at least 4 very good QBs lined up to step in for Hall next season. Riley Nelson, Jake Heaps, Lark, and the kid from Washington also currently on his mission. All 4 are highly touted and it could be an interesting battle. Utah is also loaded. Sounds like this kid made a good decision both for school and playing time. Good luck to him - all the LDS kids can't go to BYU or Utah nor should they.

re :sj bobkin

You are not as smart as you think. For starters, the QB at Stanford this season is a redshirt Freshman. He[Andrew Luck} will start as long as he stays in college. He is very good. When Dallas returns Andrew will be a Senior, perfect timing.Nunes will also Senior.Nunes is the one making a mistake. Dallas will still have 4 years to play.Noone else will head to Stanford knowing Luck is still there. As for following Max, the situation was good at BYU also, but Stanford wins on the academic front.

Non-Jazz Fan perspective

I think the biggest concern isn't boozer, it's getting more out of your shooting guards and back-up PG. If you watched the Laker's series, Brewer was left unguarded and then when Brevin Knight was in he was treated the same way. Boozer can't be as effective offensively when he has one player roaming around not guarding someone who can double team or jump passing lanes. Him and everyone else had to work so hard to get buckets because they were playing 4 on 5. I'd say they have a team option on Fesenko, let him go. Let Knight, Collins and Almond go and trade Brewer to the Knicks or anyone else in the Lebron Sweepstakes '10 looking to shed cap space for one of their upcoming picks. Brewer has an expiring contract in '10. Then use the extra money to either move up in the draft or go after a Grant Hill, Matt Barnes, up and comer Von Wafer or someone like Jermaine O'neal or Shawn Marion(if Boozer Walks) or even a Ben Gordon who will all be free agents this year. Just My 2 1/2 cents.

PAC 10

As a BYU faithful, I love the Mountain West...but playing at the Rose Bowl and USC, ASU, UCLA, Oregon, Cal...etc every game is fantastic. Plus Notre Dame every year on National TV. Warm weather games. Does sound a little more appealing than travelling to Laramie, Colorado ST, Air Force and always playing Utah in cold temperatures....wish the kid well. I have heard he is a humble, great kid off the field as well as being a great athlete.
Good Luck!

RE; BYU arleady loaded

Hate to be the one to tell you, but Heaps isn't going to go to BYU. All the things I've read about him outside of BYU publications are saying Washington is going to get him.
