Excellent thoughts. My first reaction was, "Well, they're signing up for it." And while that is of course true, she raises good points about how so often they really aren't ready for the brutality of fame. And heaven knows the producers aren't worried about this mini-stars.

Reality TV is an oxymoron and no one w/ brain cares.
Supporters lifted Susan too high | 11:27 a.m. June 2, 2009
This was an especially competitive year on Britain's Got Talent. We watched it all on the internet. My own personal favorite, Shaheen, had, to my ears a still better voice than Susan's. Yet he placed lower and didn't have a fit.

The problem in significant part was that here, where we can't have a beauty pageant without someone turning it into a crusade for minorities, we simply, in misdirected, over-zealous crusading for the homely-looking, lifted her too high, causing her to believe that she had a better chance than she had. This helped create a negative reaction and pressures she had little experience in handling.

The reason I place so much emphasis on our own warm-hearted/zealous interest here, is that there were actually four homely competitors in the final. Obviously most viewers didn't care if someone was not picture perfect.

A grandfather, who looked in his seventies, and a father and son who were short and flabby were also there. No one minded, in fact it seemed to be helpful to them.

The winning act, a dance troupe, was one of four excellent dance acts in the Final.
