Is it me or does 10 or even 20 years seems too short for stealing 30 million? Someone lost that money. It's not free. In the end it's us the taxpayer that foots the bill. Let's see, steal 30 million, stash it away, turn yourself in, serve your time (10 years x $50 K cost to the taxpayer) and in 10 years you are a millionaire.
This article isn't a pat on the back for law enforcement, it's embarrassing how lax the laws are and how sad their tracking abilities are. This guy got caught because he was over confident. The smarter ones simply disappear.
If they don't find the rest of that money, he needs to work it off at minimum wage until it's all paid. This isn't a movie. People have to pay for your greed, not a faceless company.
why isn't this so surprising..utah is a fraud capital..always has been always will be!
Remember this good people can do bad things. He has a wonderful Father. A Family that loves him. Children that will not know him other than bedhind bars. The price he will be paying is more than just his freedom.
That's the price we pay when we cheat, swindle and steal to that extent.
It's good he has the chance in this life to make restitution and repent of his ways.
I feel badly for anyones children, parents, and spose who has a relative doing this kind of garbage.
I do know that he hurt his family, but please know this man has been in trouble since the mid to late 90's. He was in prison for fraud then, and never really quit commiting crimes, even while on probation the first time. He hurt many women, especially, and has illegitimate children that are hurting as bad (or worse) than his legitimate ones. I'm not sure why he would be considered a good person,or great father, really.
Because he dressed nicely? Because he took his children on expensive vacations with money made from schemes? He knowingly commited fraud, got caught, told his attorney he was going to commit suicide, left the state and was found with another woman gambling stolen money. What part of that tells anyone that Jeff was a good man, or a great father? It's also been said that he and his wife continued spending lavishly after his latest indictment, and there was a failed attempt by this couple to produce porn in Nevada.
I'm just suprised he'd stayed out of prison so long this time.
FYI:According to court docs U.S. vs. Geddes, his last conviction/release date from federal prison for fraud was January 28, 1998. The family website says he and his wife married in August 1998, she surely knew he had been in federal prison and/or was on probation. His latest schemes, according to authorities, began in fall 2001. This is three years into their marriage and continued until this past November, wrapping up with his capture days ago.
And what about the wife? Shouldn't she be held accountable for some of the spending? You would think she would have a clue something was wrong or did she stay as long as the money was good. Perhaps she knows where some of the unaccountable money is stash. You don't live in a 10m dollar home, have a $400,000 motor home, expensive cars; Porsche, Rolls Royce, jewelry, vacations, all from supposedly selling stone to Home Depot.
Yes,I agree..I'm sure there are others involved..anyone know what happened at the latest court hearings/sentencing?
