Really?

This is considered breaking news???

breaking news....really?

News for some...

It is if you're bringing a kid to the MTC.

Not very interesting news, I'll admit.

I think they should just have every missionary in the place catch the stuff, then keep them there til they get over it. One more innoculation. :D

Sister Davis

This was breaking news for us in the Mission Field to be told only moments ago that the Missionaries we were expecting on Wednesday won't be coming. It has really caused us a lot of flurry. Thanks for being on top of the news.

Dan

I'm a teacher there, this is breaking news to me...

CP

I think this is important to know about. I did know about the no handshakes from a missionary we are writing who's in the MTC, but we didn't know that there are some missionaries that have been diagnosed. And I also think the family who brought the some 30 or so family members don't know the rules very well when dropping off missionaries. It's only the parents and immediate brothers and sisters. Not a bunch of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, etc.

Jared

This is breaking news to me, as I am entering the MTC in one week. Should be interesting. I'm not much for goodbyes anyway, so making it short and fast is fine with me.

Considering that when I went into the MTC my Dad saw me off at the Air port before leaving Detroit for Salt Lake City, I have little sympathy for these parents having to say goodbye at the curb.

840

There are actually 4,000 missionaries in Mexico. Dr. Doty may have been talking about 840 American missionaries.

Jeff

Just because it doesn't affect you, doesn't mean that you have to be unsympathetic.

AZ

We will be bring a missionary to the MTC in July. I don't know I have sent a missionary off before, it might be better to just drop them off at the curb. It was hard before, I think I will be ok with the curb. Thanks for the info.

My son's in there right now. I appreciate this news. And my friend from Alaska needs to know this before she buys plane tickets to bring her son down. Good to know.

I won't push my employer but I work for a medical supplier who has hand sanitizers and surface cleaners the Military, OSHA, CDC, and EMS use as well as many hospitals. It's bio degradable, kills MRSA, HIV, Anthrax, Hepatitis, Norovirus, and yes the H1N1 swine flu among many other things. It's available to consumers but not advertised, and creates a barrier killing up to a log 7, thats 99.99999 not 9.9 like most store products. It's in limited supply so it's not promoted in retails stores but anyone can buy it. Do a search for DepHyze on Google and buy it were you can. I sent my son with some a year ago on his mission and he has not been sick once nor are his companions while they are with him and use it. They can even get a laundry version for washing clothes.

Wash your hands

Sounds like the Missionary Training Center could potentially spread more than the gospel...

Flu bug

I work at the MTC and I am extremely impressed with they way they are handling and containing this. There are hand sanitizer boxes at every corner and notices on every door. They are doing their best which is a very, very good job. It is obviously going to be difficult to contain something like this anywhere you go -- but they are doing their best. This isn't the first time a flu bug has entered the MTC and probably won't be the last. Whatever the case, they are prepared.
