James - when will you stop making excuses for the Clippers errr RSL and writing these optimistic articles and start calling this team and organization out for what a pathetic joke it is?
A little journalism 101 for the previous poster: It's not James' job to call anybody out or put his spin on the article. He's not an opinion writer. His job is to report what the team thinks, not what he thinks.
If you want to read an opinion from an outsider who knows nothing about soccer, write a letter to the editor yourself. Or you can join the know-nothings over on bigsoccer.....you'll find lots of people who support your view over there.
he's soft!
What was the score of the game?
to the worst team in MLS. That is a Sorry result RSL.
I am ready to blame coach Kreis.
Also, Olave is a head case. We will struggle vs Colorado without Javi, Kyle, and Olave.
Awesome.
I'm a bit disappointed in Beckerman. He seems quick to point out others' mistakes (Escalada failing to put away his excellent chance early in the game in this case), but I don't see him standing up and acknowledging that he hasn't been playing all that well this year. His failed clearance cost RSL a point at Chivas and his performances have been less than stellar. There just seems to be a lack of commitment on the part of some players. Morales, Olave, and Wingert all landed a nice contract and they all seem to be performing at a level lower than they were last year. It's frustrating, but I'll be at the game Saturday. A win over Colorado may be just what the doctor ordered to get a little fire going in these guys.
What a joke they are and what a stupid game! Doesn't Utah have something better to waste money on?
YOu are going to need it...losing two, possibly 3 of our starters. I don't see Olave as a huge lose...Conner Casey is going to work him.
The team has it assessed right. And I'm glad it got reported the way it did. Anyone who knows soccer knows that RSL has the pieces to be a much better team than they are. So it's good to hear that the team accepts that while and acknowledges what they are doing wrong. Being frustrated and not denying the problem will only bring out the potential.
Soccer is a game of chess and you can't force the issue until your pieces are in place, and until you have drawn your opponent out. Hopefully RSL learns patience sooner than later, but I'm afraid more experience playing with each other is still needed, before they get the timing right.
Any pro sport is not wasted on fans who are also athletes. If you don't like soccer, you were never athletic enough to play it well. So I can see why it would be a waste for some people to watch real athletes. Some can't appreciate how spectacular real athletes really are. Hopefully these athletes can put it all together as a team and then Real Salt Lake will be something to see. It's coming!
Beckerman and Morales have done next to nothing this year. They absolutely stink... The midfield pay was atrocious. Kries tries to over think things. Escalada and Espindola for Findley and Movsisyan.. GET A CLUE~!~ What have they done? Bench Beckerman and Morales~~~ Put up or shut up with those two.... Ive been an RSL fan from Day one but this is SOOOOO Old its the same old song and dance, I think they stole Chicago's goat. Keep living in the past 6-0 WOW how cool.... Step it up BOYS!! Glad I didnt renew my season tickets, it would be a waste of money to this point
"Never althletic enough to play it well"
Or...we are just sick of supporting a losing franchise, year...after...year.
Getting frustrated. Because these are professional athletes you could expect them to play like it. Why keep to the same failing formula? Why keep the same failing strategies? Why wouldn't professionals recognize that patience in soccer is important: draw out the opponent, spread them thin, then after getting our pieces in place attack?
Year after year we get the same result.
I agree with call it what it is. Beckerman and Morales have been on vacation most of this year Olave is hot and cold. I am glad they all have card this week and won't play. Kries would never put them on the bench. lets get someone else in there and see what they can do. It can't be any worse, a loss is still a loss. I think Williams will be back, I hope he starts.
May I point a few things out to you?
1 - "It's not James' job to call anybody out or put his spin on the article. He's not an opinion writer. His job is to report what the team thinks, not what he thinks." - REALLY? So what exactly would you call his player grade articles? If those aren't OPINION what are they?
2 - "If you want to read an opinion from an outsider who knows nothing about soccer, write a letter to the editor yourself.you'll find lots of people who support your view over there." - How do you know the knowledge or soccer experience of anyone posting here? Are you trying to say that anyone who has a negative opinion of RSL must not understand soccer? We just aren't SMART enough or soccer ACUTE enough to appreciate how after 4 years RSL still needs to DEVELOP and GET BETTER and we just need to wait? This team as a business is a failure on and off the field. You can support them all youd like, but try thinking a bit more before you attack others.
I love it when anyone who criticizes RSL is attacked as being a soccer hater, or too unsophisticated to appreciate the "chess" game that is soccer. I love soccer, but not bad soccer. MLS is bad soccer, and RSL is a horrible soccer team. They deserve to get criticized. Soccer is a very simple game. It's really not that complicated. Football is complicated. A game plan is like invading France on D-Day. But soccer is simple in a beautiful way. If fans continue to accept bad soccer the team won't feel preasure to win. I for one will not support this joke of a team.
I LOVE soccer, I WANT to support US and Utah soccer. But I don't spend my money at bad restaurants, I don't spend my money to go see bad movies, I don't buy cars that get bad consumer reports, I don't keep watching a bad TV show to be A GOOD FAN and SUPPORT it HOPING it will get better.
If and when RSL becomes a competitive team that is entertaining to watch Ill buy tickets. Some of YOU may call me a bandwagon fan, but be assured that RSL will be happy to have my money and support.
As it is now - I can watch UEFA soccer on the internet or TV for the same amount of money as watching RSL on 2.2. That stadium in Sandy is GORGEOUS but the product on the field is worthless.
For those of you who take pride in being a "true" fan spending your money on tickets to watch one of the worst teams in a sub par league more power to you. You have that choice and Im not going to attack you. But don't attack those of us who want a good team.
Football is the best sport in the world but MLS is a joke. Like I've said before, every team parks the bus and plays nonsense direct football. Plus athletically American footballers are not elite since the best athletes in this country play football or basketball.
Don't believe me? Let's compare American's hope for the future, Freddy Adu (19), with Italian Mario Balotelli in their European league careers since 2007. Playing for Benfica (and on loan to AS Monaco) Adu has 20 apps with two goals and zero assists. Balotelli has 33 apps with 11 goals and four assists. Getting these numbers in a superior league to the two Adu has played in.
Now, Freddy Adu is arguably as skilled as Balotelli according to me, so why the great difference in production? Because Balotelli is an athletic monster whereas Adu is not. When I watch sports I want to see the best athletes. Another example is the European failure of Landon Donovan, who is not an overwhelming athlete. 13 apps with zero goals in the Bundesliga at age 27.
Two words SELF CENTER. Some people Just don`t get it that soccer is the most popular sport in the world hands down yow. Football? only in the US, Soccer the rest of the world, get your facts right.
Morales' poor play is the main factor hurting us right now. Stop blaming Olave. The guy is one of the best defenders in the league (any team would snatch him from us if they could) All defenders make mistakes through a season (even defenders on Man U and Chelsea). If we do not posses the ball and score more goals our defenders will "give up" goals that cost us the game. How many goals have we scored on the road? If you score 0 goals you put extreme pressure on your defense. If you can't control the midfield you put extreme pressure on your defense.
I'm not sure if this is Kreis' fault, but I doubt Sigi or Precki would be getting the same poor results with this team.
forgot to say in my previous post that Balotelli is 18, a year younger than Adu. Any MLS lovers have a response.
