I'm sorry but I had to laugh at your pain. I hope I was laughing with you.

I've fallen while running 3 times recently, but haven't broken anything. Last time, when my hand was hurting, I figured that at least I could still run!

I'd be happy to participate in the Sean Hannity hair washing/waterboarding experiment.

Can relate. Broke elbow 2 years ago. Also had surgery, plate, screws. Husband also could not do hair. Mascara with left hand similar to self inflicted torture. Still have pain-not too happy. Recommend Ben Gay. Works great, saves life. Get well soon. :) Loved story. Thanks for good laugh. Sorry for pain.

After life of multiple broken bones, torn Achilles tendon, mastery of crutches, water-proofed casts, showering on knees, ambidexterous training and paying for several emergency rooms and pain killer manufacturing pharmacuetical CEO's annual trip to the Bahamas...I have finally understood what my former admin assitant meant when she always told me with a chuckle:

"Nobody Moves, Nobody Gets Hurt"

Nice husband. | 4:19 p.m. June 1, 2009
What a nice husband to try to help wash Ann's hair. Unfortunately, good intentions don't always result in helpful acts. Get better soon so that those wonderful columns keep coming every Monday.

So sorry. I kept having sympathy pains. Ouch! Triple ouch!!! But I was distracted from the pain by the stories next to your column. Favorite quotes..." moderate shaping to power control"..."constantly wants to pull the swimsuit back into a taut shape-and it takes the body inside with it"..."A woman puts the suit on and it starts to compress to a point where a woman feels very supportive,"(bet he meant SUPPORTED, we are nothing if not supportive!!!)"She feels more confident as she's walking-feeling like things aren't moving that she doesn't want to move." "...it's not so tight that skin oozes out elsewhere." "...with the stomach, rear and side love-handles in mind...""...don't kid yourself that you can hide it...", "...pose a greater risk of "popping out"...", "...after (giving) birth...didn't like the sagging she saw, especially around her bustline...","...secret weapon...full-suit lining that attaches to an underwire bra inset." "...If your bust gets lifted up, it slims the waistline." (Now they tell me.)And my favorite part was the math equation: Width of the Body X Expansion + Contraction = Control + Height. NO WONDER WE COVER UP!!!

Sad to hear your story. Impressed by your quest to stay fit, I am one of those not running, but just getting to sleep...so you go girl! Or good for going girl, I'm sorry you won't be running for a while. Amazing how much we take for granted our bodies and parts until we have a nightmarish experience of being down to one useful hand! Good luck with the dog/horse too. Don't walk the dog for a while, good you have son who could drive you to Bountiful and experts like Dr. Huish and doctor brother, who have certainly come in handy again!
ALL the best. Maybe the baseball season will require more attention from you this year after all.

Non-column column. Very Zen. I guess you have heard the sound of one hand clapping.

You are finding out how much FUN breaking your wrist can be!! Each week will get better, believe me. I broke both wrists and my knee in the middle of the street when my upper body was moving faster than my lower body. Time right after surgery is the hardest but soon you'll be doing much better. Each week is easier. Keep it elevated and iced as much as possible. Let anyone who wants to give service give it and take it with a smile. Both of you will be better for it.I especially laughed at the hair-washing!! Get well soon!!

Thank you so much for this column! It cheered me up to no end just as I was starting to get grumpy.
Sure can relate! | 2:47 p.m. June 2, 2009
4 years ago I shattered my left wrist. Not bad, since I'm right-handed, but found I couldn't curl my hair, and do many other things that require 2 hands, such as typing. Got pretty good with my right hand. Several years ago I broke a finger on my right hand and had a cast on hand and arm. Hardest thing to do was...well...bathroom stuff...with my left hand. And ummm...feminine stuff. This past December I had total knee replacement surgery, which requires a whole new way of walking and climbing stairs, and not tripping over tiny things on the floor. I've decided it's not much fun when your body wears out before you're through using it!! I'm 62, and I want to be around a lot longer, but everything hurts! Enjoyed your column, and good luck healing. Be careful!

My Dad grew up on Avenues. Wiped out on bicycle going really, really fast down A street. The gravel and rash burns were scary to say the least. Survived, though and lived to laugh about it later, much later.

I broke my middle finger of my right hand playing football. Typing hurts. As does hair washing and just about anything else. Totally feel your pain. Although it is funny that my splinted finger looks like I'm flipping everyone off

Mother broke her right wrist tripping on a curb
by the catholic church. Dad learned to shave legs, do laundry, paint toenails with polish...etc... He already knew how to cook and clean. After nursing mom back to health and physical therapy, two years later, she fell and did it again. More surgery...
now she has to do many things left handed and she even learned to write alittle with her left. It may not heal exactly like it was. Good luck. Praying for you.

I broke my right wrist in four places on July 17, 2009 walking in a Chili's parking lot. I hurt my ankle, knee (which still hurts and wakes me up every nite), my hip (which is ok now). I have the plates and screws and will let off the alarms at the airport as well. My hand is not straight anymore, my pinkie is not nsync with the rest of my fingers. It still hurts and the doctor more or less looks at me like I am nuts.
