What is with all these re-cycled stories? Can't Deseret News afford to research and write some new ones? These are the same old stories from yesterday under different titles.

Although different from either category described in the article, I found a place for "people like me." Outside the walls of the LDS faith. Whew. Much better out here.

Well said: "The terms Liahona and Iron Rod would be better left to the meanings assigned by God, rather than those assigned by Poll."

Creating a false opposition between these two scriptural ideas distorts the teachings and results in a great many misconceptions about and misunderstandings of the Gospel.

The Rod better represents scriptural knowledge while the Liahona symbolizes spiritual direction, but both designate the Word of God. Both in harmony help navigate through the "mists of darkness" of the modern world, and both are necessary.

There's danger in creating the (false) opposition and then pretending one's more important. A too-tight grip on the Rod would produce rule-bound traditionalism, while there's rich yet tragic irony in the imagery of self-professed "Liahona Mormons" pointing the finger of scorn at those who hold to the Iron Rod!

Rather, in an appropriate understanding of the symbols, those who TRULY hold fast to the Iron Rod would surely never reject the Liahona. The Liahona would never direct one to abandon the Iron Rod, though it might clarify where to tighten the grip and where to move along.

PS: Anonymous@7:59, same *subject,* different *story.*

Thanks for the article. Very Few things in life are
"Either" or "Or" in nature.

Most of the time life is a "blending" of all possible ways.

It's "too simplistic" to create
an either/or scene here.

There are Many Ways to accomplish the same goal.
Having a "goal" is the IMPORTANT Thing.

Be Grateful that were have an "Iron Rod" to hold on to when needed. Be ALSO Grateful that we have a
"Liahona" to guide us when needed too.

God Bless!!
