We know Salem, we love the Utah valley and new beginnings are like Spring, a chance to set the bar and reach a little higher as they continue onwards and upwards. Thank you for commitment to your students Principle Anderson

Great story of how new schools get up and going. Let's not forget that here in Utah County the opportuntiy happens again this coming school year as Maple Mountain High in Mapleton opens its doors for the first time. It will also happen again in the future as the Nebo School District approved this past spring the building of several new buildings for the future; among them a new junior high for Salem.

Not only does Mapleton open a new school (Maple Mountain HS) but I believe a school west of Lehi also opens (West Lake HS) in Saratoga Springs. The stamp of new schools recently has changed the face of UHSAA region alignments and classifications. The upcoming seasons open the start of two 4A regions in Utah County--one almost entirely consisting of Nebo District schools. Amazing!

About 10-12 years ago, we had a similar situation when Copper Hills, Fremont, Riverton, Lone Peak, and Timpanogos all opened within a 2-3 year span, with Hunter preceding them by a few years. Those schools have made a significant impact in several areas. Even the new mascots reflected the change by introducing Grizzlies, Silverwolves (2), Timberwolves, Knights, and Wolverines to the list. We now are repeating a growth cycle--Syracuse, Salem Hills, Desert Hills, Maple Mountain, and West Lake will all open within a three year span. These schools have chosen Titans, SkyHawks, Thunder (2), Golden Eagles as mascots. Trends seem to favor double-worded names in high schools (CH, LP, DH, SH, MM, WL). Change is good.

A new high school will also be opening in Stansbury Park, out near Tooele, this coming fall. Previously students living in Stansbury Park could choose to go to school in either Grantsville or Tooele. I have a friend who went to Tooele, while her younger sister chose to go to Grantsville. I believe all three schools will be considered 3A.

Grantsville will be 3A. Stansbury will be 4A. Tooele will be 4A.
