Wise words indeed.

Socialism

"If you worship money, you'll never have enough."

"Worship physical beauty and you'll always feel unattractive."

"Worship power and you'll always feel weak."

Do any of you get the feeling he's talking about Obama? Scary!!!

@Socialism

If you think he's talking about Obama, you don't get it. He's talking about all of us.

Don't be scared; choose optimism.

Funny ironies

Obama speaks to American optimism. He is proof, if you can';t make it in American, you have no one but you to blame. Obama is a icon of American exceptionalism. He's the contrast to the greed and self interest that brought darkness to our economy. I chose to see the light of hope in Obama and not the darkness of his detractors.

@Funny ironies

You may know them by their works. Ironically, you can't see that the ultimate selfishness are things like supporting partial birth abortion, stealing from those who labor to give to those who don't, and depriving one of their inalienable rights in the name of freedom. Ironically the last political leadership advocated a lighter version of the current leadership with disastrous results.

The key points that I believe were conveyed were to find and worship the true and living God, seek not the things of this world, love your neighbor as yourself, and put not your trust in the arm of flesh but in the spirit of truth lest you be lead down the road to destruction by a false god, like Obama.

Optimism in false principles is an illusion that will lead us to the same destructive place.

Replace stale commencement talks

It's understandable that an address, in the context of today's public education, is seen as amazing for presenting some basic Christian values such as valuing one's fellow man, being unworldly, and worshipping something beyond oneself.

The last commencement address I attended (two years ago) merely trotted out stale 'liberal' dogmas (global warming, green issues, democrat party program). It was old, tedious, uninspiring and completely boring.

Good thoughts

I really liked those thoughts on what you worship.

By bringing up politics, even a criticism of the president, imo, only demonstrates you worship politics.

Take a break. Do a little soul searching. You don't have to filter your life through these interests.

Worship of politics?

Emperor worship comes to mind in the case of how some of our presidents are regarded.

The love of fellow man should be the aim of politics, whatever party or no party you support. Those you love you don't rob, or divest of freedom and God-given rights.

@Replace stale commencement talk

Those are not Christian ideals. These are the ideals of practically every noteworthy world religion.

And when it comes to worshipping false idols, political ideology (including conservativism) springs immediately to mind.
