The YEWTS are two games away from summer vacation!!!
Re: TCU FAN!!! | 6:58 a.m. May 29, 2009
The zoobs have been on summer vacation for almost 2 WEEKs now. That's a lot of BBQs. Has it been fun?
Oh Brother | 8:14 a.m. May 29, 2009
TCU FAN!!!! @ 11:23, why bother? Nobody believes that you are a TCU fan. You're obviously a bitter zoob. Another zoob frustrated because Utah swept the sports that matter this year. Ya, BYU beat the U in some games (still only talking about the sports that matter), but the Utes won when it mattered most. The Utes are the conference champions in football, basketball and baseball. Please keep up your pathetic posts, they're just icing on the cake!

Go Utes..... What a great accomplishment. Could they be the Fresno State of 2009? Never know, but what a great run.. Good luck Utes.

Seriously TCU Fan, when you say Yewts, you're insulting the Ute Tribe. You know, the Native American tribe that this state was named after? Yes, that very same tribe. Have a little respect. The University of Utah strives to be respectful and honor that name that we are allowed to use.

Anoymous-Well said. What's up with the disrespect. Get a life TCU fan or who ever you are. Grow up and get some class

Good luck Utes. A well deserved berth into the NCAA tournament. Quite a tournament run through the MWC. Hope all 3 MWC teams do well in the tournament.
BYU FAN | 9:23 a.m. May 29, 2009
I think it's great that the Utes were the underdogs and came up big. Good luck in the tourney! Just wish it was going to be on T.V.
A BYU Fan | 9:42 a.m. May 29, 2009
As a BYU fan the TCU dude needs to own up that he's a BYU fan and quit hiding. I'm a BYU fan. Congrats to the Utes. The Utes did win some good conference titles this year and are to be congratulated. In Cougar town we have some work to do. We don't get that done by trying to belittle the Utes accomplishments. Go Cougs!
Go Utes!!! | 10:11 a.m. May 29, 2009
Good Luck Utah!!! you never know what can happen during the tournament - as evidenced by the MWC tourney... nobody gave them a chance down there either.

Even if their tournament run is short, it's a great accomplishment to finally make it after all these years - and by the sound of it, they are making progress to be more of a contendor in the conference.

Go Utes!!!
Fact | 10:23 a.m. May 29, 2009
Good Luck Ute's...it is funny to see a Ute fan pick and chose what sports matters. I bet fellow athletes feel that all sports are as important as Basketball and Football. But you have always chosen which sports when the Y takes all the other sports..lets see..softball Y, track Y, baseball Y (series), swimming Y, Rugby Y, and yes I will give you credit gymnastics U and it does out draw your basketball team..ha.
MWC love | 10:40 a.m. May 29, 2009
The presence of the Utes in this tournament is a slap in the face to real baseball teams everywhere.

It is a simple reminder of why conference tournaments are less about champions and more about cash.

Our conference should be weeping.

What about Volley-ball? That seams to matter?

I am just saying?
re: MWC love | 11:18 a.m. May 29, 2009
Wah!!! Wah!!!!

Tournaments in some sports are stupid, but when it is a double elimination tournament like baseball, there is no excuse. If you are the best team, you should win.
Baseball Fan | 12:19 p.m. May 29, 2009
As an alumni of the U of U I am very proud of the baseball team. I have always enjoyed football and basketball at the U, but have always felt that I could really enjoy Utah baseball if they were relevant in the national picture. Lets hope they can continue to improve and do this again before 49 more years pass. Go Utes!
Loyal Ute | 12:38 p.m. May 29, 2009
Although I am proud of the Utes accomplishments in Ft. Worth, I am genereally not in favor of conference tournaments to determine automatic berths to the NCAA tournament. What was the regular season played for? That being said, the Utes saw a great opportunity and took advantage of it, saving their best baseball for the tournament. My hope is that they will be able to keep their focus and make a great showing in the tournament, regardless of how far they get. Now and forever, GO UTES!!
RE: A Cougar Fan & Fact | 1:50 p.m. May 29, 2009
Good to see some Cougars with class. Always appreciated. I understand not being happy about your rivals success, and sour grapes and all that, but to see one be the bigger man...there may be some hope for the Y yet ;)

As to MR. Fact...seriously? You're throwing swimming and track out there as a MAJOR sport? And Rugby!?! I mean, I love watchin rugby, but the U of U doesn't even give out scholarships for Rugby. Lets see, what are the major sports in America? Hockey? ha...no. Track?...nyet. Swimming? aside from the great Phelps, who do ya know? Seriously. If we're talking sports people actually care about we're talkin baseball, basketball and football. They're the ones people pay attention to. I mean, can you really, of the top of your head, tell me who won the discus? lol. But I can tell you who threw 5 interceptions last fall...and Kruger is STILL open!
Utes up, cats down | 3:00 p.m. May 29, 2009
Kruger's gone, but you're point is still valid. The U should have a hockey team though, it's one of the most exciting sports.
HMM | 3:04 p.m. May 29, 2009
Kruger now is on the bench in the NFL, what's your point. Utes were a 6th seed for a reason, they got hot when your suppose to. So congrats to the Utes on a successful year in sports. PS I am a Coug fan, but I appreciated good competition and will always cheer for the teams from our great state.
Ute in Philadelphia | 3:53 p.m. May 29, 2009
Utes up, cats down:

Utah had a nationally ranked Hockey club team back in the mid to late 90s before losing their university sponsorship. Even though it was a club team, it was still exciting to watch. They were THAT good (although Utah St's program was a little better). Now, with university sponsorship renewed, I hear they are back, but not back to the level they were playing before. I would LOVE to see them added as a Varsity sport. They would do very well there. I would also love to see Lacrosse move to a Varsity program as well, but with Title IX, neither will ever happen.

HMM:

The 2009 NFL season has not kicked off yet. Nor the preseason. Kruger has just as good a chance as any to see playing time. Perhaps even better than Beck's. He's not "on the bench" yet.

GO UTES!!!
Major Sports | 8:59 p.m. May 29, 2009
I agree with RE: A Cougar Fan & Fact | 1:50 p.m.

A simple determining factor for a "major sport" is the revenue it generates. Certainly...football and basketball are major sports across the country producing net gains for most schools. At the U, gymnastics is also a revenue producer. I am not sure where baseball falls on the revenue scale but I am quite sure that track, swimming, rugby, etc. for most schools across the country (including BYU)consume more financial resources than they produce.
MWC Love 10:40 a.m. | 11:05 p.m. May 29, 2009
Hey if you are watching the game, it's in the 8th inning and the Utes are only down 18 to 2...hum....only 2 runs in 8 innings?????

Way to represent our conference.......

It's too bad that there isn't a MERCY RULE so that the game could have been called after the 4th inning and save a lot of EMBARRASMENT for all of us!!!!!
Lost | 11:43 p.m. May 29, 2009
The headline on this article should have read that the Utes got lucky. The loss to CSF shows that they didn't belong in the NCAA regional, especially not with a losing record. What it proves is that Majerus was right about conference tournaments--they are designed to make money and are a joke on the fans and teams that play well all season long.
SoCalUteFan | 11:51 p.m. May 29, 2009
Hey, we didn't play all that bad!
We hit the ball and scored 2 runs in the 5th.

There were some questionable call that went their way.....and their getting 20+ hits and scoring 18 runs didn't help us out, but at least we got to play in the NCAA!!!!!!

Go Utes!

Corey Shimada, who earned second-team MWC honors this season, helped Utes earn first NCAA berth since 1960.
