It is good to hear our new governor-in-waiting tout the energy efficiency initiatives forwarded by Huntsman. There has been significant fear amongst many of the booming renewable energy industries that Utah was going to turn its back on the hot innovations developing in Utah -- from Raser's 100 MPG Hummer and geothermal power plants to First Wind's wind project in Milford -- that will give Utah a significant position in the clean technology sector.

Given Herbert's background in real estate, he could become a key mover and shaker in "green building" and LEED certified construction (e.g., such as the innovations incorporated into the LDS Church History Building). This will dramatically cut energy costs and emissions for operating buildings in Utah, and Herbert could further Huntsman's plan by launching a building retrofitting initiative to help kickstart construction in Utah while progressing to the efficiency goals noted in this article.
