political grandstanding at it's best. This time it happens to come from a confused republican who won't uphold the laws of the state of Utah; Illegal Immigration. How can we trust him to represent us in D.C. ?
An article about Memorial Day shouldn't focus on some politician campaigning, but rather those who have sacrificed so much to give us the freedoms we enjoy. Save your speeches for another day Shurtleff.
Thai article isn't about a politician, it was an interview with one who spoke the truth. America is worth fighting for and these brave men and women understand that. I think most forget what were fighting for because their secluded I'm their comfy bubble I'm Utah and don't even know what's going on across the country let alone across the globe!
I am always proud when our leaders stop their busy schedules to remember our veterans. I think Shurtleff's speech was very patriotic. Thank you for remembering those who have given the ultimate sacrifice.
Memorial Day is about honoring those who have made the ultimate sacrifice so that we have the freedom to express differing view points. I am glad that Mark Shurtleff took the opportunity to stand up and say something relevant. What happened to this day, it has become a day for BBQs and knocking back a beer. What we should be doing is making sure that in every cemetery every veteran's grave has a flag and flowers placed on it and that none are forgotten. I thank God every day, not that these men and women died to protect my freedom -- I thank God that they LIVED and were willing to sacrifice anything and everything because they loved this country so deeply. The schools don't teach patriotism anymore or even American exceptionalism -- now we are just a part of the 'international community.' Funny the international community wouldn't exist if it weren't for our willingness to save them from ideologies that threaten life and liberty. "We despise our enemies not because they kill our children, but because they force us to kill theirs -- There will never be peace until they love their children more than they hate us."
Shurtleff gave a great speech. Its important for leaders to express thanks to those who have/do serve our country. I am impressed with the Attorney General's interest in supporting the armed forces and standing behind them even during unpopular wars.
Any person who has served in any branch of the service has a right and a duty to remind the rest of the country why we observe Memorial Day. It is a day to remember our brothers and sisters in arms. Any solder no matter what their job in the military, knows this code. Shurtleff knows this code and is honoring it. He has a position that allows him to voice our countrys gratitude. I remember my brothers and sisters in arms who have fallen. I show gratitude for their sacrifice and ask God to comfort their loved ones. Shurtleff did not write the article, he simple did what he felt was honorable and right by our veterans. Kind of absurd to fault someone over others actions.
He has the right to say something. He's a vet. And his brother is a US Army Chaplain. He's entitled to say supportive words of the US service members if he wants given those conditions. I ask those who've critically commented if they've served. I have served for 27 years (18 Reserve, 9 Active) and I've got 33 months of deployed time under my belt. So, I say, right on Mr. Shurtleff! Thanks for the encouragement to honor those who've paid the ultimate price for our freedom.
How can Shurtleff claim that we can win the war on terror when he is an open advocate for wide open borders and harbors illegal aliens in Utah?
Shurtleff used Memorial Day to give a shameless campaign stump speech.
It's not America's war on terror. It's a global issue. I love this country with all of my heart. But we are all in this together.
Any politician who is for open borders and amnesty is not on my list of someone I will vote for. If it's only Bennett and Shurtleff then I will vote for the next guy. Hope all join me.
I have moved here after living in many states and other AG's did their jobs not photo op every chance they get. Could the media do stories about the good or bad way he is doing his job. That is what we voted for.
I agree, this was a photo op for Shurtleff. This war was about OIL, based on lies, and to send troops in to DIE in the name of freedom and patriotism is reprehensible. War profiters like Cheney that wrap themselves with a flag then make money (Haliburton) make me sick. SHURTLEFF stop drinking the Cool Aide (as the dittoheads like to say) there is no way "we're" going to win this war! Stop sending the honorable troops to "win" a war that can't be "won"! Stop the killing!
To all my family members that served, and to all men and women in the military- you are loved and respected for all you give to ensure our freedom- I'm so sorry we had a President and VP that lied and sent you in harms way. I will never understand how they can sleep at night!
