The average class size is determined by the total number of students divided by the number of employees in the school with a current teaching license. This is where the discrepancy lies: instead of counting classroom teachers only, added into the number are principals, librarians, computer specialists, special ed, reading and math specialists, etc. Your child might be in a class of 30+, but listed as being in one of 20+. Ask a teacher what he/she thinks about the listed FTE of his/her school...

So let me get this straight. You're in the business of teaching children how to count, but you don't know how to count children??? This just reinforces my lack of faith in our government run school system.

The article stated it is the STATE that has differences with how numbers are reported. Trust me - we ALL know how many students are in our classrooms - and we do our level best to give our students the education they deserve regardless of how many times we are devalued and discredited!
