It never occurred to me that bears would associate perfumes, etc. with food, but
it is logical. If a bear finds food at a campsite and it also smells soap or
other perfumes at that site, similar odors can notify the bear later on that
humans (and therefore food) are nearby. We especially need to remember that
bears are carnivorous animals, and we humans are still part of the food chain.
