Confused... | 9:59 p.m. May 19, 2009
The issue of polls confuses me. If the district leaders were really in tune with the "served" population, they'd already have answers. The problem is, as I see it, the district leaders have no idea what people want, because the GSD folk have no interaction with parents and teachers. Ask any teacher when they last visited with a GSD official. Ask any parent when they last saw a GSD official at a school function. The answers are "never" or "not in the past few years." If GSD folk got out of the office regularly and visited, they wouldn't need a poll. They'd really represent the folk that pay the taxes. They'd understand the real issues. But, at what they make a year, it would be beneath them to actually work for a living and get out in the community they "serve" and "represent." (And I always lie to pollsters.)
No Bonds. | 4:41 a.m. May 20, 2009
What a bond means is you pay more taxes on a permanent basis and forever, even after they have repaid the loan. Bonding is a way of borrowing money that tax payers are expected to repay by adding more taxes to property and other education related taxes. Now that the economy with fewer jobs and tax paying citizens our governments and education system is using bonding to indenture us more. It's a system that bypasses our legislative system to cutting costs to raise our taxes. The status quo of the education system in Utah must face the reality of making cuts in education overhead. We are in a recession with an economy that is going to remain flat for many years and they must adapt to these changes. We in Utah are already one of the highest taxing states for education and we can't survive more tax increases. Polls are not representative nor accurate to justify any cause and can be adjusted to acquire the wanted results with trick questions and broad answers.

Can we have Dan Jones do a poll on how many of us want to get rid of Lord Ronnenkamp as well? Let's borrow money when there is competent leadership, not when we are riddled with incompetency.

There has never been a better time! Davis School District and Nebo School District are both putting bonds on the ballot this year, because there has not been a better or more competitive time to build in the last 10 years.

You know you need to do it. Why waste money on polls? Just sack up and make the decision!
Poor Economy | 2:13 p.m. May 20, 2009
In light of the poor economy and public education layoffs throughout the state, now is NOT the time to even consider bonding.
