I have had the privilege working with the Jr. Engineering program in the past 5-10 years. It is very rewarding to see students' eyes light up and their wheels turning as they learn and discover scientific principles. The lessons illustrate real life applications of our curriculum. Losing the program would definately be a loss for Utah's students.

By all means cut the science program but don't you dare cut out any football or other sports program. After all our kids don't need an education, they just need to be entertained through physical sporting activities right??

A thorough understanding of the game of football will ensure that our kids get good jobs and that our country will continue to strive as a world power.

That's why, when we give to USU, our alma mater, we designate it ABA, for Anything But Athletics.

The "major" coaches could fund the Jr Engineering program out of their salaries.

Wake up and lead, Aggies!

Given how much college tuition is overpriced for extra efforts, why can't they afford to continue this?

Wouldnt it be better if we spent the time and money teaching elementary school students the How to learn rather than fun things like science and engineering experiments. The way I hear it, there is a problem of people dropping out of school in the upper grades. Could it be that they spent the time on field trips and other things rather than learning how to learn. Learning is the most fun thing a person can do if he/she has the right tools.

Not all students are going to be football players and not all students are going to be scientists..So what happened you get cut from the JV squad?.Othe Universities have figured out how to have both programs..Sounds like they are just smarter.

The state I live in took in 1.6 billion-
that is illon with a B in front-
dollars last year from the education lottery.

Gambling gamers.

Now we are closing summer school and other elementary science educational programs and laying off hundreds of teachers.

When I asked why?

Ive never heard so many Uhhhs and Ahhs in one sentence.
I told the lady she needs to record a message.

The best answer so far- Its the recession!

The reason science gets cut in Utah is because of the promotion of evolution which you religionists all fear. Truth is off course, scary.

It's an extra science enrichment activity, they aren't cutting regular science class from the school. The University just isn't making money from the elementary school. Giving public college and public university get funded at least in part through property tax why is the one paying the other in the first place? Universities get another funding source, tuition.

If those in education get paid so badly why is it that tuition goes up higher than inflation every single year? The math doesn't add up. It's worse than the oil and gas companies.

I have the solution-- lets follow the example of football and have the students that use the science exhibits pay the cost to bring those educational materials to the schools.
Football is a money maker for schools and in addition the players have to carry some of the costs personally.
You must have been in the science truck and missed out on the facts of football.... Sorry Bryan, your suggestion is all wet.

then we wonder why we are slacking behind when it comes to science and math in comparison with some of the Asian countries...
