Judge Winder was the man. We'll miss him, but we'll be talking about him for a very long time. Super guy.

I knew Judge Winder and was saddened that his health failed so badly these last few years. He is a man of dignity, and he served Utah so very well. His life is a tribute to this community.

Judge Winder was the epitome of a good judge: smart, kind and humble. What a loss.
Great Guy | 9:55 a.m. May 20, 2009
I remember going into the old Cabana Club on 4th South and having the pleasure of talking with Dave while having lunch. He would patiently explain the points of law to we non-legal types and always insisted that we call him Dave. He relished being just one of the guys. It seemed to take a lot out of him when his wife died. Farewell to a great guy.
A GENTLEMAN | 11:29 a.m. May 20, 2009
Our family vacationed with the Winders when I was young. I remember Dave having such a nice way about him. I saw him recently and he stopped to talk as always the gentleman he was.

Words cannot begin to describe how sad and empty I am feeling today. I had the great honor and privilege of serving for fifteen months as one of the Judge's law clerks. It was the best job I ever had or will have. Far more than teaching me about the law, the Judge taught me about justice and respect and dignity and hard work. No matter who you were, you were always the most important person in the room when you were with the Judge. He was my mentor but more importantly he was my friend. Some of the best times in my life were spent just sitting with him in his office and talking about life. I love him dearly and will remember him always. Utah and the rest of the country has lost a true hero. Although he was not a particularly religious man, he exhibited more Christ-like qualities than anyone I have ever known. I love you Judge and I will miss you. May God bless you and give you the peace and comfort you so richly deserve.

As "Uncle Jers'" oldest nephew, I always appreciated his interest in what I was doing in my young life. As an adult I was impressed with how often I heard compliments about what a fair and scholarly judge he was. I was proud to 'claim' him as my uncle. ... He will be missed.

Judge Winder took the time to mentor so many of us who practiced trial law in his courtroom that his positive impact will survive him and elevate the practice of law in Utah for decades.

Nothing but respect. The world last a bit of light. A wonderful man and a grand jurist.
