IS!!! How many couples were rescued?
There were 2 people. "The couple were rescued" is indeed correct. Look it up in the AP style book if you don't believe me. Just because you say it wrong doesn't mean it is wrong.
Satelite signal. I doubt he had a satelite phone.
We are talking about a mobile phone. Not a satelite phone. Mobile phones do not transpmit by satelite.
Now that the grammar lesson is finished...I was very glad to hear of Max and Beth Call's rescue, and hope the cold doesn't have any lasting effect on their health. They are a wonderful couple, and I wish them many more years of good health.
We're talking a cell phone, not a mobile or satelite phone.
I am grateful that my grandparents are alive regardless of what type of phone he called on. I know that it was a miracle and I am so happy that they are alright.
They called us on a cell phone. Search and rescue told us that it was a miracle that they were able to get any signal out of the area they were in. The point that we want other people to get is that these elderly people like mom and dad think that since they can call across country to family memebers in other states they should be able to call from the canyons just a few miles away. They have a false sense of security in having the cell phones. We would just like to see others educated so that we don't see other people who don't have as happy an ending as we did. Let this be a lesson not an argument over simantics.
