I can't see paying memo if he opts out, too much of a defensive liability, same with boozer; i've heard it said before, i'd rather watch twelve millsaps and lose than twelve boozers and okurs and win.
I agree he isn't the best defender, but its really tough to find a good center in the league without giving up too much in return. I don't remember the stats exactly, but i remember that when they showed the team's record when memo was injured, it was terrible. The nice thing about him is the ability to keep him out on the 3 and open the middle. If we could get a defensive-minded power forward I think it would make memo even more valuable because he can focus on his strengths. Sounds like Greg is looking to pawn off Boozer if he can, I'm relieved about that. He is top priority to get rid of. I'd hate to see Korver go, but I wouldnt be devastated if we got a comparable replacement. And above all, their statement of doing whatever it takes to keep milsap is the best news so far this off season. He's more than earned it and its good to see the team recognizes that.
"KEEP THE NUCLEUS" "OPEN TO ALL RETURNING"
SOUNDS LIKE WHAT I EXPECTED ALL ALONG
I DO NOT SEE THAT AS A STATEMENT HE WANTS BOOZER TO LEAVE.
Like I said all along. If up to Greg it will be the same 12 players coming back..
Shocked.
SO the Jazz will have to suffer for one year anyway so what does that do to the paranoias that once we start losing more, we could be sold or broke or BK.
Most players who have that player option will take it so they can test the market. Rarely does a player take that option unless he doesn't feel like he can do at least a little better with a new contract. It'll be interesting to see when the options are all played out, including Utah's team option on Kyrylo Fesenko, how the chips fall and where the offers come from. But if they do opt out, either Memo or Boozer likely will not be coming back. That's ultimately the choice the Jazz will have to make.
Peace out from the Jazz Oracle!
If Sloan stays, all these words are meaningless.
Utah Jazz are fair weather fans, thus if we don't get the players we need to be successful the stadium and merchandise will feel the impact. Thus, paying a luxury tax should be a no-brainer for the Miller family.
Posters - Please remember ... the 3 players mentioned - Boozer, Okur, & Korver - THEY are the ones making the decisions this year. They have the player option to opt out or not. It's not really up to Greg, KOC, or Jerry about these 3. Let's all be patient until the end of June when they will let us know their decisions.
That's pretty much true around the league. It's not isolated to Utah.
Why bring back the exact same players from a team that finished 8th in the Western Conference last year and was dominated by the Lakers in the first round of the playoffs? Unless they want similar results next year, the Jazz need to make some moves to become more competitive.
Hopefully the Jazz will extend Korver's contract. We need him to stay in Utah. He is going to be healthy next season and a shooting machine....if Jerry gives him the green light. Korver is a huge asset to any team. He's a talent we need to keep!
I think right now Greg Miller doesn't know what the final outcome will be, but he isn't throwing any player under the bus yet. It sounds like he wants the same team next year, but I give him more credit than that. He knows a change somewhere is needed to shake this team. They need to make a change at least as big as the Korver trade a while ago that will motivate these guys again. "If you never change what you're doing, you'll never get different results"... or something like that.
If I had to guess, I would say that the Booz, as great as he can be, is gone. Millsap should move to the 3, Okur to the 4, and we should make a run for a true center.
I agree that paying the tax makes sense if you're on the cusp of winning a championship. But guess what? We're not! If we bring all the same guys back for next year, we can expect the same result: lots of wins at home, lots of losses on the road, and ultimately a 7 or 8 seed in the playoffs.
If I were Greg Miller, I would make it a point to keep Millsap, Williams, Brewer, and Memo on the team. EVERYONE ELSE WE SHOULD CONSIDER REPLACING.
The only way we should expect a different result for next year is if we shake up our roster.
So this is how family businesses get run into the ground after their founder passes away and leaves the reigns to a son/daughter.
Here is a novel idea. Why don't the Jazz shake up the roster. If all three opt in Boozer and Korver should make a great bargaining chip to trade for an impact player such as Bosh, Carter, Jefferson, etc. If all three opt out bring back Okur, and sign some added help. Greg needs to look at getting a new coach. I think either Hornacheck or Scott Layden would make a great coach. Phil Johnson, as Todd says, will just be the same as Slown. Greg lets be brave and try something new, it just might work.
Same effort= Same result
Somewhere AK is laughing.
Miller's talk about going over the cap will give the players bargaining power. They will not fill constrained by the cap. It will encourage them to opt out.
Scott Layden as the head coach? Give me a break. He didn't do a very good job when he was here last time and rode the Mailman, Stock thing to big bucks in New York as GM and we all know what a flop he was there besides getting run out of town. Hornacek, Dantley, and Corbin would be a great staff, dump the rest. Then dump everyone but D-Will, Okur, Price, Korver, Koufus, and Fess on the softest team in the NBA- the Jazz. If you can't do that, sell the team and get them out of here!
Put Milsap on the list of keepers.
The day Boozer Opts to stay, is the day that Jazz should turn around and trade his lazy behind for David West.
AK is another player that simply needs to go. Harp, love ya but you are not healthy enough for the NBA anymore... see ya.
I am endlessly fascinated by the people who think Jerry Sloan is the problem with the Jazz. Name one person available out there who would be better. If you can name one who has over 1000 victories under their belt and the respect of all the sane people in the league, I would sure like to know who he is....
