To John | 10:53 a.m. May 18, 2009
But you can't just go about your business. No, you have to make sure everyone knows you're going to skip it.

Great Idea! | 11:00 a.m. May 18, 2009
I am looking forward to listening to the broadcasts.
Anonymous | 11:04 a.m. May 18, 2009
So the Church will own KSL and this new religious station. One for the political message and one for missionary work.
Great Idea | 11:05 a.m. May 18, 2009
Considering everything there is to listen to on the radio I wouldn't think we would need another station until I heard about this one, I will be sure to listen. It will provide a great service to the many LDS who want to listen to something uplifting throughout the day, traveling, or working. Thanks to the Church for making it possible.
thE_iyE | 11:12 a.m. May 18, 2009
If I remember right, you don't have to listen to this, or KSL, but I don't remember the chruch oficially owning KSL either.
krb | 11:18 a.m. May 18, 2009
Too John... Many people are saying they are going to listen to it, as opposed to "going about their business"... why can't john express his opinion???
It's About Time! | 11:29 a.m. May 18, 2009
I am looking forward to hearing official Church-sponsored programming. Thank you!
to krb | 11:33 a.m. May 18, 2009
When we want to hear Johns opinion we will give it to him.
Excellent | 11:34 a.m. May 18, 2009
This is fantastic news! Now I need to get an HD radio. I appreciate the Church making the effort. Thank you!!

re: It's About Time! | 11:29 a.m. May 18, 2009

What? The 3 or 4 channels on cable TV, channel 5, & 1160 aren't enough?
Spokane cougar | 12:22 p.m. May 18, 2009
To Anonymous @ 11:42. There is a world outside of your little world. We don't get channel 5 or 1160 up here and I really appreciate getting to hear things that will help me and my family. I travel a lot and HD radio is perfect since there is so much out there that I just don't want to listen to. Now I can enjoy what I like. My thanks to the Church for expanding its "Good News".

Wow! When you want somebody's opinion you will give it to them? That line of thinking may work on your mormon youth, but you really shouldn't say things like that on a public forum. It just reinforces the stereotype of people in this area. If a church wants to have a radio station, good for them, if people want to voice their opinion about it, good or bad, then good for them.
O2beRich | 12:46 p.m. May 18, 2009
I hope the internet station will allow us to get content at times other than it's regularly scheduled time. I would really like to hear Music and the Spoken Word but it normally plays at a time I can't tune in.
to JC: | 12:57 p.m. May 18, 2009
you might want to check out SLCC's course catalog. I believe they have a remedial course on recognizing sarcasm.
Cats | 1:00 p.m. May 18, 2009
To JC: You obviously didn't get the fact that that blog was intended as sarcasm.
TO JC | 1:00 p.m. May 18, 2009
Lighten up, he was joking. Our kids don't listen to us anymore than yours do.
oh boy, oh boy, oh boy | 2:05 p.m. May 18, 2009
more pabulum, please. thank you.
Great | 2:08 p.m. May 18, 2009
Now there will be an alternative to Christian radio
The Bible | 2:16 p.m. May 18, 2009
I hope they have a program to help us anwser, our critcs, especially those question about Greek translations(variants) and manuscripts discovered in the 19th century.
Rich | 2:53 p.m. May 18, 2009
I personally am not going to listen to this radio station. But I have no problem with it. I hope that it does very very well, then maybe all the Mormons will listen to LDS radio and stop getting horrible ideas of what "Conservatism" is from Sean Hannity.

I will stick with NPR, I have never once heard a reporter on NPR tell me what to think.
TO: Rich @ 2:53 | 3:37 p.m. May 18, 2009
Rich-

Please don't tell us that you ACTUALLY believe that NPR is un-biassed and very objective. Please go out and buy yourself a "lick of sense" and realize that NPR is impressing pretty much every report with the liberal Democratic Party line. You can hear the opposite in Rush L and Hannity as well. But PLEASE!!! My goodness, it would be quite easy to diagram and outline the NPR reports and indicate with slant and inference the liberal line.
Fredd | 3:38 p.m. May 18, 2009
I'm concerned about the car accidents caused by drowsy drivers.
Anonymous | 3:46 p.m. May 18, 2009
Sweet! I love to multitask and listening to something good on the radio is a great way to do that.
re: Rich | 4:17 p.m. May 18, 2009
What credibility would a NPR listener have on anything when NPR is 100% liberal media paid by our tax dollars.
Re: NPR | 4:20 p.m. May 18, 2009
Yes, NPR is fair and unbiased. To really encounter liberal bias you need to watch Free Speech TV or read the Nation. Hannity, Ruch & Beck are so far right that NPR just looks unbalanced to you.
NPR or bust | 4:32 p.m. May 18, 2009
to Rich: NPR doesn't tell anyone what to think - they just leave out the facts! Bwha-ha-ha-ha.
realitycheck | 4:39 p.m. May 18, 2009
don't know why moderator feels the need to strike out my comment, but I'll try again...

you people are soooo boring. how can you listen to this stuff day in and day out? or will this station play some good music occasionally?

tell them we want to hear led zepplin or pink floyd. (my assumption is that you all have heard of these bands.... but perhaps not)
Big Al | 4:50 p.m. May 18, 2009
Isn't it great that we all have the freedom to tune in if we so desire and tune out if we choose? Those of you who don't see any value in "Mormon radio" are never obligated to listen. You can listen to a myriad of other voices available to you, and no one will make you a target of disdain or bigoted criticism or hatred. And since you don't support Mormon radio financially, you needn't worry about paying for something you disagree with. Seems pretty non-threatening to me. But something tells me all you detractors will be unable to resist listening. Then one day you will hear something that really touches you . . . then your life will begin to change . . . and pretty soon you will be saying, "I never thought it would happen to me . . ."
Eileen | 5:03 p.m. May 18, 2009
I've been in broadcasting for over 30 years now, 29 on radio - and am excited about this new station. As someone who does not live in the Salt Lake area, I have been using BYU radio for some soothing listening, but this channel addresses other areas that I am excited to be able to hear.

Great work! Much thanks to those are behind this. The first Conversations program hosted by Sister Dew is a wonderful chat with the Bednars. I'm hooked already.
Jann | 5:05 p.m. May 18, 2009
It makes it so nice when you dont have any access to any hardly any lds media. I was so excited to get it and have been listening since I got home from work and found out about it. It sure beats the local stations that we have back here. Not much of a selection back here. We cant get KSL and the stations here are very limited and they dont really tickle my fancy. I am so glad that they have it. My husband got tired of me trying to get KSL radio on my limited mp3 player on my blackberry before we got the computer hooked up. This is such a cool station. But than again, I dont live in Utah and it is a much welcomed station back here. Thank you.
Janet | 5:35 p.m. May 18, 2009
Maybe we can have some long discussions on this radio station why LDS shouldn't covet what thy neighbors have.
Ernest T. Bass | 6:31 p.m. May 18, 2009
We will all be so richly blessed.
Sue | 6:43 p.m. May 18, 2009
To Janet: What???
Montana | 6:51 p.m. May 18, 2009
It will be wonderful for those of us that are less exposed to the LDS lifestyle in Utah.
Thank you for this treat.
Anonymous | 7:05 p.m. May 18, 2009
Snooze fest.
Rich | 7:22 p.m. May 18, 2009
I hope some of the "LDS Lives" episodes can be adapted for radio. Many of them are inspirational. Ditto for Channel 14's "The Joseph Smith Papers" and Hartman Rector Junior's "On Sacred Ground."
ken | 7:37 p.m. May 18, 2009
To those that like to criticize the LDS church. You just love it when an LDS based article hits the Internet as you can read and give us "advice." If you don't like us why do you spend your time and effort to make negative commnent? Can't you find better use of your time? It's like we have you hooked whether you like it or not. Sticks and stones will break our bones but names will never hurt us
Wow | 7:55 p.m. May 18, 2009
The church's critics never cease to amaze me. Granted, we've earned some of your scorn, but there are a whole lot of things I don't like or that offend me. I generally don't make a point of going there just to mock or criticize.

Wait a minute, I guess that's what I just did. And I didn't even half to go looking for you, I knew right where you would be...

Fredd, you crack me up, no pun intended. Between you and me, sometimes I do drift off in church.

Big Al, I salute you! I thought you were going to say, "they'll listen until they find something to take offense over, then they'll raise cain."
moises | 7:59 p.m. May 18, 2009
Thanks, Thanks, Thanks. Good news!

Well. I won't! Rest assured. Ch 5 is owned by Bonneville Communications which is the media arm of the church.

re: Spokane cougar | 12:22 p.m. May 18, 2009

Actually, my friend. Its rather narrow minded & myopic for you to assume the size of my world.

I'll agree that there is alot of flotsam and jetsam infecting the airwaves but enough about conservative AM talk radio and country music.

FWIW; Satellite radio is the way to go.
How About San Francisco?? | 9:15 p.m. May 18, 2009
A Top rated station 96.5 KOIT-fm is a Bonneville station. Is this new programming going to be available there. That station used to be the place for the LDS Radio Network of about 10 years ago and before on the older SCA subcarrier analog technology. San Francisco, one of the nation's largest metropolitan areas, was not mentioned in the cities "line-up" in the news story.

Hope that the San Francisco Bay Area again has opportunity for the New Generation of LDS programs.

Thank You.

Why call it the "Mormom station"? Are you Mormons or LDS?
scott cheever | 12:32 a.m. May 19, 2009
Great news! The word's getting out. I'm sure many non LDS that stumble onto it will like what they hear. I love the church.
Gemma, UK | 1:54 a.m. May 19, 2009
I tuned in last night. It was good stuff :o)
OC Surfer | 3:10 a.m. May 19, 2009
I hope it's more hip and revelant than stodgy BYU-TV, but still look forward listening to it on SiriusXM.
JDH | 5:02 a.m. May 19, 2009
The only type of person that would think NPR is fair and balanced is someone who knew very little about a whole lot.
