REST IN PEACE ATVers! PS: Please remember to wear helmets in your next incarnation.
I used quads for years and never had a life threatening injury. helmuts are a must even though for years I rode without. But the first time I wore one on my dirt bike it saved my life. It cracked but not my head. Quad runners are safe if you know how to ride. Most fatal injuries are caused by the bike landing on the rider. They should never carry 2nd riders because if the type of tires. People that get killed do not know how to ride well. Or they do not know the area they are riding on and go over areas they dont have the know how to drive on.
People who wear helmets are a little safer. However, ATVs are just plain dangerous. Even if you know how to ride, they are dangerous. People in neurological intensive care units are mostly there because of drunk driving, or because they used motorcycles or ATVs.
JUst reading todays paper, we would be safer if we banned ATVs, bicycles, knifes, camping, autos, matches, and the city of Ogden.
Unfortunatey we all die some how, some way, some day. It sounds like a high risk sport but it seems like most of the ATV accidents that I have read about over the past year involve riders that compound the risk by the use of alcohol, riding double, excessive speed, a disregard for laws that were intended to keep the ATV's off paved roads and away from car and truck traffic or a combination of these. I subscribe to a Yahoo news search based on the word "ATV" and the carnage goes on day after day. Personally I love my quads but want to return home after every ride. My sympathy goes out to the families and friends of the victims.
My family and I were all very close to Dave Barber,
its a huge loss for us all and he will be missed,
we've been told that he broke his neck from the crash, causing him to death. Its a very tragic story and i will never forget it. Dave, we all miss you, we all love you, and can't wait to see you again! RIP. Always and forever.
