Currently, China doesn't allow any Christian missionaries. I hope the Governor can convince the Chinese government to allow LDS missionaries in the future.
The questions are: Has he got Rush Limbaugh's and
and Dick C. Approval?
Huntsman is such an impressive talent, it is an indication of the republican's disorientation that he is not recognized as a major leader, by fellow conservatives. It is ironic that his skills should be most appreciated by a Democratic president.
Jon Huntsman is a breath of fresh air among Utah Republicans. Too bad many of those in the Far Right locally have their heads so far in the sand they don't recognize it. Bravo to the President for looking beyond party, and rewarding excellence.
If it was indeed Obama's intention to remove Huntsman from consideration as a challenger for the next Presidential election, it may have worked out better than planned for the Dems.
Seems like then Romney might have the clear shot, and no way the country will ever elect a Mormon for President, and so Obama has basically cleared the path for himself for 8 straight!
Well done, Sir!

My best wishes to Ambassador Huntsman and Governor Herbert in their new roles.
What a classless choice of pictures. Pretty immature.
Jon Huntsman was nominated twice for the office of governor by the Utah Republican party. In 2004 he scored the most delegate votes in the supposed "ultraconservative" convention and won handily in the subsequent primary election. In 2008 he won the nomination in the convention, again from the "ultraconservative" delegates. I would say that is a pretty good indication that his talents are recognized by conservatives in the state. Now if the liberals think we are going to bend over and kiss his butt like they do for Obama, then they probably have another thing coming.
the announcement on C-span. The exchange between Mr. Obama and Mrs. Huntsman occured just as the governor was beginning to speak. The exchange was brief and lasted no more than a second or two. The photo and caption suggest that the president and the governor's wife were having a conversation during the speech and as such are misleading. Hopefully this is a simple editorial oversight and not a deliberate attempt to show disrespect toward the president, the governor or his wife.
I love jr's raised right eyebrow. Reminds me of "Bones" from Star Trek.
I think this appointment is great. It's what Huntsman has wanted, and I think he is ideal for the job. He is first and foremost a diplomat, as his time as governor revealed, and he's committed to economic growth. On the other side, Utah will get a governor (Gary Herbert) who is more representative of the majority's view on many issues. It's a win-win. Congratulations, Gov. Huntsman. I wish you the best.
For those who applaud the appointment of Gov. Huntsman as Ambassador to China because he is likely not to promote substance over style and feel good riddance of him from Utah, it's important to remember that China is likely, according to news reports, to take over leadership from America and Japan in the production of cars! This is just one example of how important China will become economically and politically. As dealerships in Utah close, China is becoming a major consumer and production nation. I sure hope that those naysayers regarding Gov. Huntsman are wrong because if they are right, then they and the rest of else are going to feeling a lot more pain as China expands in the global market place with the potential of displacing America as the leading financial and political power in the world.
Hunstman has already agreed to promote adoption of Chinese girls by Utah families. The diversity is wonderful. Soon we'll all be able to learn Mandarin and eat with chopsticks.
Glad to get rid of this wannabe. Now can we get rid of his 4 day week of l0 hours days (that he sprung on us)? What a thoughtless thing to do to not only State workers, but those who need services. And, now State workers are just taking longer lunch hours and more breaks to get through the l0 hour day.
Haha! Great thought but Hunstman would/does drop his values in a heartbeat. Don't count on him opening any missionary doors!
While on the surface I am pleased with this appointment and feel that Gov. Huntsman will provide much needed dialogue and leadership, I am concerned on another level. The State of Utah spent significant money and effort in the most recent election for Governor and the people reelected Governor Huntsman. Now, it seems that a brighter opportunity comes along and Governor Huntsman bolts for that "brighter light". It worries me that commitments mean so little (like college and professional sport coaches) that these folks feel it is alright to leave those that have elected them in the lurch. Mr. Herbert may be a great guy...but I didn't vote for him to be governor. Where are the people that do what they say they will do and stay until the job is done? This is a trend that I worry about. Am I alone here...?
Sad to see a Republican in Huntsman who is not blinded by the ideological right wing go with some of the issues that are now hotbeds. Herbert is an ultraconservative, just the type the LDS church and the Rush-lovers in Utah will enjoy. Too bad that while much of the rest of the country is becoming forward thinkers, like Huntsman, Utah is again snaking back into the corner with Herbert.
Interesting to see who gets involved in 2010. Shurtleff? Matheson? Could be exciting.
Maybe we can get Hatch and Bennett to both run for Governor, that's the only way they will ever leave the Senate.
Matheson needs to make a run at the Senate before the Republicans redo his district lines again, this time to include Southern Utah.
Too bad this didn't happen sooner. I'm physically handicapped and was fired by the State because I couldn't work the 4/10 work schedule. I was supposedly protected by ADA, but the State found a loophole through which they could fire handicapped employees.
I always thought it was somewhat deceptive of him to NOT tell the Utah electorate that he PLANNED on supporting the gay agenda, raising taxes, basically keeping "hands off" the illegals, etc. I don't have any problem with his positions, only that he FAILED to tell us that BEFORE we voted for him!
Is it too much to ask politicians to be up front with their views, especially when they run as Republicans?
Just "use" the Republican party in Utah to get elected, then become a Demo?
GOP is paralyzed ... and Huntsman is walking over the bodies...
