Before you complain about the DNews not covering such and such athlete or team, note the article byline: John Coon. He was asked to cover 10 state championships in two days. Thanks, John, and thanks DNews for covering the sport.
P.S. What a great State Championship. Incredible performances in all classifications.
As a HS track coach, I've see Coon and talked to him at every invitational this year. He knows the athletes and is truly invested in what he does.
These athletes work really hard, and without Coon's quality coverage, a lot of their accomplishments would go unnoticed. I stayed up late last night waiting to see some coverage of the state track meet on KSL, KUTV, and KTVX, but was sorely disappointed. The state track meet is a glorious competition, and one of the few that hosts 1A-5A meets simultaneously. To not cover it is near criminal. I just wish Coon was also assigned to cover wrestling.
Thanks for all of your hard work!
After watching this event, all I can say is great job to all the athletes involved. State track is one of my favorite yearly sporting activities, and its great to see all the young people involved giving it everything they've got.
The man has quietly created a little dynasty down in Hurricane. 3 Championships in 5 years and 1 runner up. congrats coach, doing a great job.
I run fast everyday and Coon hasn't reported on me!
