This is just more of the over-the-top political correctness movement.

Get out of my life and leave me alone!

"The Parents Television Council, which actually hires people to sit and count such things, found almost 11,000 expletives aired during prime time in 2007."

Sounds like somebody has a severe case of neurosis.

Don't we have more important things to worry about?

I'm sure back in teh day NOBODY swore... only nowadays.
Please, swearing is all in the "ears of the beholder." If you let petty words offend you, its your problem.
How does a word convey such horror as swear words. Sentences I can see. Single words, no.

is that nobody thinks it's a problem. To the extent that this kid has had multiple people going out of their way to swear at him, at the mild end, up to death threats at the extreme. For what? Encouraging better vocabulary and expression?

Nobody makes anybody join his club - it's a free country! Except that nowadays that seems to mean it's only free if you want to "celebrate" diversity - code for anything other than the traditional family, patriotism and loyalty to America and it's traditions. And to say anything you want as long as it's politically correct - which of course swearing is, after all it's breaking a societal norm. Keeping societal norms is out, and will earn you the wrath of the PC nuts. As this kid found out.

It has always been bad to use profanity. I however do not think it has gotten progressibly worse. But peple have regularly talked that way for many millenia. J. Golden Kimball was worse than what this author is saying.

Only petty people support petty words.

The rest of us would rather not live in the gutter but aspire to greater heights.

In my view GWTW was a very boring movie. However it did demonstrate one thing: it was thought to be shocking to use the word "damn" in a motion picture back in the day.

My Dad once, only once, used the name of Jesus in vain, under provocation. Mom said: it's not His fault! Dad never misapplied divine nomenclature again.

I became exposed to regular "effing and blinding" first in High School, in the Sixties. According to my youngest daughter, school cussing is "normal" now and has greatly degenerated since my High School days.

Cuss words once used in rugged situations were still regarded as "not fit for polite society" which actually meant they were not used at home or in public generally.

The use of foul and totally misapplied words has absolutely nothing to recommend it. Worst of all is the taking of God's name in vain. The awful expression "OMG" is virtually ubiquitous.

I say "Bravo" to the young man who is seeking to upgrade everyday language. The English language is rich and diverse and needs to be expanded far beyond a few coarse and misapplied expletives supplemented by a little Junior High level vocabulary.

Yes, there is no cussing club. Isn't it time someone started one?

Had a club like this in Korea and it spread like wildfire. If you swore you took a shot in the arm from anyone who heard you . .even if you were drunk.
