Political blogs not well read, BYU prof says

Despite the frequent glorification of political independents, it's long been known that so-called independents (i.e., "moderates") are, by far, the least informed voting block. The vast majority of campaign expenses are used to attract this very uninformed group in the middle.
Cause or effect? Do people choose a side because they're extremists, or do they pick a side because they're well-informed?
I choose to be independent because I am well-informed. I read about the candidates and the issues, I read the news, I study up before each and every election, and I don't agree 100% with any party platform. I vote for the candidate that most echoes my own political beliefs, not the party. Sometimes I vote Democrat, sometimes I vote Republican. It depends on the individual candidate.
