Good for Charter Schools!
Maybe this will put an end to the silly reports that say charter teachers are not certified or that charter schools have less accountibility.

Accreditation was a very rewarding experience for our Charter school this year as we reflected on how to make our successful school even better. All schools can benefit from it so I am glad that Charters have adopted this. Hopefully, traditional elementary schools also seek accreditation.

Accredited charter school = public school

...so why have them at all?

charter school parent & teacher

Why have them at all???
So my kids can be in a class of 25, not 36.
So my kids can have a music, art, PE, and foreign language teacher.
So I can have teachers who are expected to communicate with parents on a daily basis.
So I can teach at a school where we are at-will employees. Horrible teachers aren't sheltered by unions and I know that I either do my job correctly or I'm out!
So that when budget cuts hit, we cut administrative costs and CHOOSE to not have raises, rather than cutting our arts or athletic programs.

Why???
So we can choose something better.

I believe in accountability and have no problem going through the Northwest Accreditation. So in all fairness, I look for the state board to require accreditation for all elementary schools, not just the Utah Charter Board doing so for elementary charter schools. This will give parents a fair review of all public schools in Utah.

Public school parent

To charter school parent & teacher:
I'm glad to see you are so caring and concerned about the welfare of kids--"So MY kids can be in a class of 25...so MY kids can have music...so I can have...MY, MY, MY, ME, ME, ME. Shouldn't ALL students have these advantages? Rather than focus on charter schools that only serve a few, why not work to ensure every student can have a great school?
Sounds to me like all you want is private school education on the public dime.

This is another example of how charter schools are held to higher standards and given fewer dollars than traditional public schools. They will meet this new demand, without increased funding, demonstrating to the community that traditional schools have too much "fat." Charters educate students more successfully for less money than traditional schools. The statistics are clearly out there on this debate. The fact is charters do a great job for a "dime" while traditional public schools get "dollars."
