The article incorrectly states that Bluffdale is the only city in Salt Lake County that doesn't levy a utility franchise tax (aka a municipal energy tax). Cottonwood Heights doesn't impose such a tax either.

You are not realizing that the 90K probably includes benefits. The salary is probably 60k with 30k in benefits.

The real problem is Lord and Maxwell and their backwoods mentality. Their idea's of n0 commerical growth for tax base. Every time you need gas, food or go out to eat you leave the city. With the tax dollar going to Riverton. Thanks alot good old boys!

$90,000 for a building inspector is way too much. I'm an inspector and I don't know any inspectors making that much. What do all the other employees make? Too much I'd say. Consider cutting everyone's pay by 5%. I mean elected officials, city manager, everyone. That would be alot more than $90,000 I'd bet. You still need an inspector, duh. We have found a lot more remodels going on, when people can't buy new, they remodel, residential and commercial. I'd bet that will keep him busy. Contracting out inspections is never good, there needs to be someone available all the time to answer questions, meet with people, etc. Just cut everyone's pay a little and you'll be fine.

Bluffdale has a Community and Economic Development Director that makes almost $90k on his check and the mentality of the city officials is no commercial. Seems easy to me where the cut should be made. Hiring a contract inspection agency? Don't make me laugh! Their philosophy is don't make waves and collect your money from the city. These inspection agencies use a 12" trowel and box of quickset drywall mud to make corrections to building code violations. That's right; they cover them up because they have the run of the jurisdiction with no oversight. SL City will cut 1.5% from wages for all employees with no lay-offs. Maybe SL City should annex Bluffdale.

For years Maxwell and Lord have claimed that Bluffdale is a rural community. Their idea of rural is one acre of lawn and a big house. They have fought any commercial development as they feel that this would destroy the "rual atmosphere" and in doing so they have lost 1/3 of the city's land mass and prevented any commmercial development from coming to Bluffdale. Take off the blinders folks and think about what is best for the regular people here in this town before it is too late. Perhaps you should keep in mind that it is an election year.
Stop with your own agendas and think about the people who voted you into office

is still too much, even if it includes benefits. They ought to be cutting salaries, especially at the top. There is so much waste in government. We all would be sick if we only knew.

I think the City needs to look at all of the salaries especially the Public Works Manager. He makes way too much, and costs the City more money than necessary by doing things that are inappropriate. he has used equipment that is loaned to the City for personal projects and damaged the equipment and then the City had to pay for his stupidity

I have a couple of things to say. First-subing out inspections is a very efficient manner in which city's can have a department ran for them and provide the staff of 3 or 4 for one price of less or equal to 90,000 a year. Second-The public works manager makes the most mistakes himself that cost the city as much as some employee's wages and is still employed. This is one of Bluffdales biggest pot holes of government waste.
