Hey, Lana! That's recurrence, not reoccurrence.

The school is hardly 20 miles from the location he was found. Check your facts.

The driver needs to inspect his rig, bottom line.

This samething happened to my son in Las Vegas, we only lived 5 min from the school and he was the 1st to get dropped off. After 20 min of him not showing up I called the school and thay said he got on the bus. It was an hour and a half I got a call back from the bus depot that the bus driver found him slepping in the back seat. We lived in the southern part of Vegas the bus depot was in North Las Vegas.
Like the Dylan Snow my son was 5 years old and in special ed. Both of incedents could of ended very differnt. Thank God it was the better.
Drivers do need to be held accountable.

Knee-jerk reaction in soliciting alarms. Whatever happened to parental responsibility. Don't like the current operations, then take personal responsibility and either home school the child or drive him yourself. Do not blame others. This will save you and others money in taxes and recreate the concept of personal responsibility.

No, the parental responsibility in this case is to make sure this doesn't happen to other students! This was in no way, shape, or form the parents fault! This parent could be putting a lot more blame on the school than she is, I think its being handled quite nicely. It sounds like the current operations wouldn't be a problem IF THEY WERE BEING FOLLOWED!!!

Um, the bus driver and aide had a responsibility to check for students. His parents have taken responsibility by sending him to a special school program to help him progress and overcome his autism as much as possible. Mistakes happen, and as this mom has said, she knows that; but she is also hoping to help prevent future problems so that no other child ends up forgotten on a bus. I am sure that the driver and aide feel terrible about this error on their part, and I doubt they personally would ever make this same mistake again, but it could still happen with other buses and this is why the mom is suggesting this solution. I don't see how this could be seen as a knee-jerk reaction, nor how someone can accuse the parents of not being responsible, nor of them blaming when the mom said she understands mistakes occur.

This is a case of personal safety, not personal responsibily! If anonymous and everyone else were even half way concerned with the human race's well being, you would see that there are children's lives at stake here! This is not about this mother wanting to pawn her personal responsibilty for her child off, this is a mother wanting to ensure saftey of other peoples children! even the artictle states that her son will not be riding the bus next year, so this is apparently not for her personal gain!

Two people on the bus... two!

That's incompetence. It's pink slip time. I ALWAYS do a once-through and I don't even drive the bus.
Where was MOM? | 11:02 a.m. May 13, 2009
My wife and I have 2 handicapped children that ride the bus. We put them on the bus, and are there waiting for them to get off - where was there mother? anywhere but the bus stop where she needed to be.
The mom was.. | 12:00 p.m. May 13, 2009
At home, thinking her son was at school. He fell asleep on the way TO SCHOOL. She would have had to be psychic to know that there was a problem. If you read the story again, it says that the police officer showed up 10 minutes BEFORE the child was even due home. Not once had this mother ever not been waiting in the driveway for this boy to get off the bus.
To "Where was MOM?" | 12:10 p.m. May 13, 2009
The mom stated the following:
"It was pretty scary," Snow said. "The police came to my door about 10 minutes before my son was supposed to be home and told me he had got off the bus at the wrong stop but was now safe."

So the Mom was at home where she was supposed to be, waiting for his bus to bring him home and was alerted to it before he was even supposed to be there. She didn't drop the ball.

I am sure that the driver and aide are sick over this mistake and would never make this mistake again.

most busses do have alarms on the it is called "child find"....so when the bus is turned off you have 3 min.'s to go to the back of bus and open the door (i do not know if this bus has it or not)....however when there are two people on that bus there should be no excuse....

Everyone makes mistakes! No one's perfect and i know for a fact that the bus driver and aide are devestated over this so please don't judge them. I understand that they should have checked the bus but it's not our job to give them crap about it. Don't you think they've been through enough?
